ParticipantHi,
Our machine wont complete any cycles. It will fill with water but the drum doesnt rotate/agitate. It drains and empties the water okay but it wont spin and the cycle complete light never comes on.
If I select just the spin cycle or drain cycle, the pump seems to work as normal but then nothing else happens.
I have checked the filter at the front and it seems fine. I turned the machine on its side and removed almost £10 in change and 2kirby grips from the black rubber hose that goes from the drum to the pump!
I have also cleaned the drain pipe but it still wont do anything.
The drum turns by hand normally and the belt is in place.
I hope this makes sense and someone can help!January 10, 2010 at 8:34 pm #308432aqualectric

The motor brushes could be worn out. They are fitted to the back of the motor body; lean the machine back and you will see them. Remove and check each carbon brush.
Unplug the machine before any inspection. :plug:

Thanks for taking the time to post a possible solution for me.
I will try to have a look at them today but im not really sure if i could tell whether they are ok or not! Will try anyway and i will do a little research online that should give me a picture of what worn/faulty ones look like.January 12, 2010 at 3:17 pm #308434999andyo

I removed the brushes and they are worn. Theres only about 3 or 4 mm sticking out of each of them so hopefully this is the problem.
Will get new ones and let you know if it gets my machine working again.January 13, 2010 at 2:59 am #308435gandh1

❗ dont forget to clean the armature first, and make sure there are no flat/burn spots on it!
retail price for carbons for that model are quite expensive – £20-50 +p&p depending where you buy them (not that they are that expensive to buy trade!) but they are pointless buying if arcing has damage the motor armature as the carbons will then only last 6-12 months (depending on machine usage)

Got quoted £22 for a set from a local shop. They didnt have them in stock but they ordered me a set.
I will have a closer look at the armature(after I find out what an armature is). The machine is on every day, quite often twice, but if it works ok for another 6-12 months for £22, well, I could live with that…..just as long as I dont need a new machine!January 15, 2010 at 4:17 pm #308437999andyo

Managed to get new brushes(£22) fitted them and now the machine is working again! Yay!!!
Hopefully it stays that way!
Just want to post the news cos it might help someone else out to know what you suggested worked. Thanks for your help. 😀
