    Re: whos the idiot

He has been around for a couple of years, been a bit quite recently, likes the sound of his own voice I’ll bet. Does seem fairly clued up on certain aspects but does like to spout off.

Have a read back at some of his previous posts to get an insight as to his persona.

He can descend to ‘troll’ like behaviour if he gets his teeth into something, just ignore him is the best advice TBH.

I recall a similar problem with Whirlpool dishwashers a few years ago.
If the machine was installed near to an air brick or some other source of cold air it wouldn’t work in cold weather.
This was to prevent the machine from starting up if it was frozen.
The solution was to pour a jug of hot water in before starting the machine.
Slight inconvenience usually fixed by correcting the installation.(ie bung up the hole)

Slightly different scenario with a tumble dryer however which has to be externally vented and will be affected by the outside temperature.
I think that the “not fit for purpose” argument is perfectly valid in this case and the poster on the public forum should be supported and not slagged off for his opinion.

People come onto this site for help not to have their intelligence called into question.

    Love and peace

I would have to disagree with that. If people wish to place household appliances in places for which they were not designed then they must accept any and every problem that comes their way.

Trilobite has a history of ‘imposing’ his views and often jumped into threads that were nothing to do with him. He is of course free to voice his opinions but when he does so in an overbearing, all knowing tone he is likely to be shot down occasionally, as Ken has done so succinctly. 😉

    Re: whos the idiot

The idiot in this case IMHO is the manufacturer who put frost protection into a vented dryer.
There is no water in the appliance to freeze so the only explanation I can come up with is that they used the same software as the condensing dryer to save on production costs.
As for putting a bowl of warm water onto the drum I’m glad its not me having to tell the customer to do this.
Who gets the blame when the customer starts the machine with the water still in it?

    Re: whos the idiot

If I am not mistaken this is not a case of ‘frost protection’. Why would you put frost protection in something that is not designed to be exposed to sub zero temperatures in the first place. 😕

If I understand correctly it is due to the temp control NTC becoming that cold that it goes out of range and the PCB aborts the programme because it senses the NTC as faulty. 😕

I think it is amazing you guys who post on the public get this kind of grief!. You are offering quality free advice in your own time. These kind of people clearly don’t know they are on to a good thing.

To be honest I can’t really understand your motivation for posting on the public forums after your own work, but credit to you for taking the time to do so.

    Lets start a campaign then.

Mainly because, if we don’t tell the how it is, no-one else will as they’re all too frightened to do it I think. And, let’s face it, some of them do need putting down a bit. 😉

You’re right Steve, no issues (pretty much) with old mechanical stats but, electronics you’ve no chance with unless they’re designed to work in the temperature range.

the base model hotpoint dryers still use thermostats…

Just a pity about the rest of the dryer. 😥
