ParticipantHi,
Customer has rung me today with a ISE 10 washing machine just under a year old.
The customer says the selector switch rotary knob is cracked.
After speaking to yourseleves I have told him that cosmetic faults including the knob are not covered under guarantee.
His arguement now is that the knob is a moving part and therfore not cosmetic.
I fully appreciate that cosmetic parts or customer abuse issues should not be covered under guarantee but it does seem he has a point here.
He is an OAP and seemed very sincere when he said he hadn’t knocked the knob.
What do you guys think, it seems debateable as to if the part is cosmetic or functional?

If it’s cracked then I’d have cried foul an said it was impact damage as that’s about the only way you can break one.
You really have to be going some to break one of the 10 timer knobs as they even just “unclip” when they get a knock from the side as I found out, on an install, on Skye, about 150-200 miles from home. 😕
I can’t think on how one would become cracked as such.
Is the guy sure it’s not just been knocked off kilter? I’ve seen that when they do what I did or thump it with a door, door opens onto the machine and whaps the knob.

Wife knocked ours off when a belt loop caught on it, After I calmed down it just popped back on easy as anything, no damage at all. I reckon ISE could post this part to the customer and get him to fit it.
Will be letting wife out of darkend room in a few days.January 12, 2010 at 11:25 pm #308562kwatt

He’s sent in a photo and the usual, “I demand”, email…. :rolls:

Looks like impact damage to me. I can’t see any other way that this could happen.

There is so little resistance when turning these knobs that it can’t be anything else but misuse. :rolls:

If it’s a £2 part and a 2 second push on fit, just do it and have a gentle word.
We’re supposed to be building a “different type” of brand here – a little good will goes a long way.

ParticipantOk, I will give him a call and try to stear him towards fitting it himself.

Just got a call from a customer with a similar fault, not been out to it but they insist it has not been subject to rough handling.
Is it a simple job to fit one of these, never had to remove one but it would save time and money if we could post them a knob.

ours, after another year of use, is showing signs of the silver coating being scratched which do appear to look like crack but are nothing more than the outer coating.

Hmm, still if it loooks cracked its not great on an £800 machine.
