The fan element went on my oven. I replaced it over 2 years ago without any problems. I’m sure the element I took out had to connectors each with two terminals for the wires to connect to. However I’ve messed up, I connected the two red wires one to each terminal and got distracted and connected the third wire (white/black) to one of the spare terminals next to one the red wires. I’m guessing what I’ve done is connected the earth wire to the element. And the oven has gone bang, the time, clock, light and fan still comes on but no heat on either the fan or top element. I’ve traced the white/black wire and it goes up to the connecting block behind the temp controller. I’ve taken a picture but not sure if I can attach to the posting.

I’ve tested the element with a meter and it the fan element looks ok.
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

    Hi Matt

I would recommend calling out a professional to look at this.
When the earth wire becomes live, any number of components can fry, in my experience often more than one part when DIY’ers have a go!
see the “repairs@” is my advice.

    good luck

Without going in to too much detail , as we’re limited to the detail of info we can give you , What you’ve done is completely shorted the feed to the element.

My guess would be that you’ve cooked the selector switch/main control unit…..and as that part is roughly £163:00 +VAT , i think you’ve unfortunately made a very expensive mistake 🙁
