    Hi,
Our dishwasher is… 13 months old, so just out of warranty 🙁
All has been fine until two weeks ago we realised it was washing with cold water and obviously not cleaning. The cycle seemed normal other than that.
My initial, obviously flawed, analysis led me to buy a new element, which has not helped.
Determined to find the problem, I have run a test voltage of 9v from the power switch and traced it through the door switch, PCB, thermostat and pressure switch. By triggering the door switch and blowing into the pressure switch I was getting the 9v at the element. The PCB connection was closed with throughout.
I’ve tested the thermostat in hot water and got the expected results. I’ve continuity tested the pressure switch in isolation and all seemed fine.
I have done a live test (I know not recommended but I was getting desperate) and got 230v between one side of the element and the feed into the pressure switch but only for maybe a minute before it dropped off again. I’ve even tried activating the pressure switch via a pipe at the beginning of the wash but still no voltage at the element.
I have suspicions around the plug into the pressure switch since I got some inconsistent results there at one point but it seems a sealed unit.
I’m guessing this could also be a random problem from the PCB.

As you can see, I’ve done my best, but I now need some experienced help. Please!

Sadly the best thing you could/should have done is buy a better quality appliance in the first place. 😉

As this has an element that is visible within the tub and has terminals that are easily accessed from underneath I’m surprised, given all your extensive and rather elaborate but unnecessary testing that you didn’t bother to use a multimeter or megger to check the original element for resistance & continuity before you wasted your time and money changing it. :rolls:

This element is not as prone to failure as the ‘tube’ type used on many of these appliances.

The PCB is however very unreliable and will fail if the wind changes.

Part number for the PCB is C00143211, around £43 ex vat.

    Iadom,
Thanks for the quick response. I did check the resistance of the element and it was OK but I was sure I was getting voltage at that point, so thought there must be some other fault with it. I’m not an engineer…

Can you suggest any way to confirm it’s the PCB before I spend any more money on it? I have taken the PCB out and checked for any dry joints etc but nothing obvious.

    Thanks again.

The relay on the pcb is waaaaaay under specced for the load it has to take. The temperature sensor (NTC) is also integral with the board and causes a myriad of problems.

By replacing the heater, (unfortunatley) you have identified the pcb as the culprit as there are only two links in the chain.

By replacing it, you are only starting the cycle again – bear in mind that we repairers think that there is far better product on the market.

Just to say thanks to iadom and Penguin45.

I got the PCB from CG Domestics for about £55 inc. Arrived in about 3 days. Fitted no problem – a bit fiddly but not too complicated.

All now working. We finally have a hot wash.

I now know a lot more about the insides of a dishwasher than I set out to know but at least I have saved spending £300 on a new machine (and I have a spare element!)

    Cheers
    TD
