No problems on wash cycles but E20 appearing 5 or 10 minutes into drying.
I’ve checked the filter and that’s clear. I tilted the machine back, un-did the 3 screws to check the pump and that’s clear. I blew through the waste pipe and bubbles appeared in the filter area, so I’m guessing the waste pipe is clear.
What is the next thing to check?

I have the same problem on my ZWD1681W and suspect as it’s just the drying cycle that gives the error that it’s a blocked condenser unit.
I can see it from underneath but have no idea how to remove it to clean it.
I suspect you have the same problem.

Hopefully we’ll get a reply from someone that will be able to help us both, assuming it is the condensor and mine is in the same place as yours.
ok e20, officially is pump failure
early washer dryers had a toc in the pump, and were notorious for getting hot, and cutting out when running without water
as for the condenser, theyre always worth taking off and cleaning
top off, 2 screws either side of top of rear half of cabinet, 1 attatching cabinet to dryer fan… two screws under the white caps, at the bottom middle of the cabinet, sometimes thers some in the rear of the back.
all 8mm screwsdetatch the valve cover from the back, and it should lift out
take condenser off and clean
plug out, and be careful in there

Cheers will try it. Think E20 is a generic code that is often a pump fault but when the error is only during the drying cycle then it indicates something else. Hope i’m right !

Thanks for your reply. By the sounds of things it’s worth cleaning out the condeser, however I’m having trouple with your directions. I wonder if you could expand on them for a launderously challenged have-a-go such as myself?
Is this something I should undertake myself (on my own) or am I going to get into a mess with it? I’m not totally useless, I’m just worried about getting out of my depth. For example, I know how a screwdriver works 🙂

All the screws that helo_75 mentions, do they just hold the cabinet to the framework, or do they hold other parts in place – i.e. if I remove the screws will anything vital fall off?
Also, the “two screws under the white caps, at the bottom middle of the cabinet”, can i reach them from the top or do I have to go underneath? Or are they accessible from the sides outside?
And, what does the “valve cover” look like, and how is it attached? Is the condenser attached to the removed valve cover or would removing the valve cover allow access to the condenser?

It’s a pretty awkward job to get the condensor out. IMHO if you can’t do it from Helo’s instructions, then it’s time to ring for help?

First of all, unplug it! :zap:
When you take the top off, there are 4 8mm screws going from the top of the machine down into the rear half of the cabinet. IIRC they are just behind where the suspension springs come up.
There will be 1 8mm screw on the back of the M/C towards the top that screws through the cabinet into the dryer unit.
Look at the back of the M/C, towards the bottom for 2 or 3 more 8mm screws, and look at the sides of the M/C towards the bottom for the white caps.
Where the flex enters the machine there’s a semi circle plastic bit that unclips. Now the back half of the cabinet should pull away.

I managed to get most of the screws out without a problem, however the ones under the caps at the bottom of each side were more tricky. They required a 8mm socket small enough to fit through the ridulously small hole that they were recessed into – thank heavens for neighbours kind enough to lend out their tools!
The condenser/condensor itself was easy enough to remove and was indeed pretty clogged up with gunk. I managed to blast most of it out with a hose and the rest required a gentle nudge with a length of wire.
It was easy enough to put it all back together and the first test-run of a drying cycle did not throw up an E20 error code – phew!
Now, did I put that waste hose back in the drainage pipe properly 😕
