My machine is only a few months old and a crack has appeared on the door facia around the controls roughly in line with the lock down to the centre of the handle.Hotpoint/Indesit say it is not covered in the manufacturers warranty only working parts,is this correct? It has definately not been abused!!!It doesn’t affect the machine working but is the facia available? and how easy is it to replace? thanks

I actually bought it from Argos although it was delivered from Indesit direct.After a few emails to Indesit and one to Argos, who have contacted Indesit on my behalf, I had a phone call from Indesit to apologise and arrange a visit. They are still saying it will only be repaired free if the engineer is satisfied it was not accidental damage!
I know some people would try to do this and it would probably be hard to prove otherwise but fingers crossed.
I can get the part for £25.99 so it’s not really worth arguing over but it is only 5/6 mths old.
Any reports in the trade of other IDE750’s having this problem??
It looks like a stress crack to me possibly the door heated up and expanded causing the crack vertically between the handle and the recess for the catch? or a fault/weak point in the plastic itself?

It really depends on the manufacturer’s policy on how things like this are dealt with but, for the most part, many faults that appear to be user generated or physical damage will not be covered. A good many manufacturers and most outside this industry as well, will accept no liability for what is considered to be mistreatment, physical damage or customer misuse, it’s an incredibly common policy.
Part of the problem is, of course, that there are a number of people out there that will, shall we delicately put it, claim things that are perhaps not quite what the case actually is. And, equally as many that treat things they buy with what almost appears to be contempt never mind carelessness.
Another part of it is that all Indesit, Hotpoint etc. products that I’ve come across are, as you rightly point out, not exactly what you’d call outstanding quality items. So I’d think if you got a bit rough with it, even if you didn’t think you were being that rough on it, then probably there’s a good chance it’d break.

The crack doesn’t completely go from the edge of the handle to the edge next to the catch recess more like it’s spread from the centre outwards?
My first thought was the pull on the handle,when opening,may have caused it but, as it doesn’t actually lock and (I presume) the catch is sprung loaded, it should only open when the predetermined pull is achieved so you can’t pull any harder than it was designed for.
