    Afternoon all,

Could somebody let me know if one is able to bed in the above carbon brushes without dismantling the motor?

I am fairly new to the business, and have not come across such a motor…
where it appears impossible to carry out the above without stripping/partially stripping the motor.

As an engineer I understand the need to clean the commutator, and bed the brush set in too. Wondering if this gets neglected, or if there is a slimmer style comm’ stick available.
The access is rather limited, and I would appreciate some feedback… forgive my ignorance!

what motor has it got? you should just be able to change the carbons easily two screws a piece different motors different carbons sole ceset etc. as for com stick…….everyone has their own idea ….as for me I just blow out the dust and give the com a wipe. as the deposit on the com is carbon and the brushes are carbon I see no advantage if the com is mechanically damaged motor is bu####ed.
I must have fitted thousands over the last thirty years and see no reason to change my ways now.

OK folks let the “oh you shouldnt do it like that ” begin

I recently started using com sticks again after about 15 years of not doing so and found that (especially Bosch) motors seemed to settle down a lot better after a good clean. Less sparky situations. I follow the clean with a paintbrush in the gaps to make sure there’s no bridges.

I agree there bosch might seem to be the exception that can cause problems but I find a rag with a little WD40 to clean the com usually results in no problems
