ParticipantHi folks, thanks for the help recently, regarding my new kitchen, i’ve now got another issue needing some expert help. 🙂
Got my kitchen layout sorted as best as possible, but need to fit the f/f nearest the wall on the right hand side. Now, a little research shows that most of these f/f’s need the fridge door to open approx. 160 degrees to access and remove salad drawers, etc. and all (?) have the fridge on the right hand side. I don’t think the fridge door will open over 100 degrees before it hits the wall. Major pain! 😥
Anyone know of any options or versions of this style of f/f that can be fitted in my layout, ie. drawers that can be removed if door is only 90ish degrees open, integral versions or left hand fridge door?
Mrs G hasn’t had much input into the kitchen but one of these american style f/f’s is a must, so no arguing! 😆
Thanks again for any help!

Hi Gaz
No pressure then 😆 As far as I know all the American SXS have the fridge on the right. If you can post up the total width you have available I`ll see if anything can be done.

Yeah, no pressure!! 😆
I have about 1200mm to play with, but was hoping to have a 300mm larder between the f/f and the oven/micro tower that’s to the left..it really is a tight squeeze. Trying to juggle functionality and aesthetics..head’s bursting!Cheers Don

Hi Gaz
I wasn`t thinking laterally yesterday, the answer was here in the shop all the time 😯 got me trusted tape measure out this morning on the American fridge freezers I have here. I forgot about the door thickness 😉
Right then off to the shops you go 🙂 The American cabinets are on average 68cm deep including the doors, the actual cabinets are 60cm deep. The clever bit is that the thickness of the doors would be in front of the larder unit if a standard 60cm depth one is fitted, this allows the doors to be swung right back almost to 180 degrees.
HTH 🙂

Hi Don, thanks for that but i think we’ve got crossed wires a bit. In a normal american f/f the doors would be able to swing open up to 180 degrees because the doors sit proud of the units either side. What i have is (with a normal american f/f) the freezer door being able to open in front of the units (larder in this case) but the fridge door would hit the wall it’s up against. 😕
I know i could have the f/f elsewhere, but it suits the layout of the kitchen to have the f/f in that corner…i’m sure there’s way to fit it in, it’s just not came to me yet! 😆Thanks for your continued patience!! 8)

Aha I see now, Is it not possible to have the 300 larder unit on the “fridge” side to the wall? If that makes sense 😕 as I think you are going to have to make a compromise :rolls:

Yeah, i know what you mean, i have had that drawn up and it looks pretty bad tbh. And don’t mention that word compromise.. i’ll get strung up! 😆
I’ve seen a few f/f’s online that look to have access to the bottom drawers with the door only open 90, i’ll just need to see them in real life. Also, think samsung do a integral unit that the doors must only open 90…seems to have lost a lot of storage space though! 😕It’s a tuff game this!
