An elderly relative has an Electrolux premier fan oven model no. DD060CEGR
The main oven is a fan oven and the element has blown.
She is unsure about whether the fan was working before the element went and I know these elements can overheat if it is not.
The fan does NOT work now.
I was, as most people will know able to remove the element, without taking the oven out from between the kitchen base units, but cannot check the fan without taking the cooker out. The blades turn freely.
Can anyone please advise me, does the fan only turn when the element draws current OR should it have been on, with the blown element.
    Thanks for any help.

Fan motor is switched by a selector on the front of the oven thermostat. These switches can fail, meaning that the the thermostat must be replaced.

Entirely possible that the fan motor has failed.

You will have to drag it out to check.

Thanks so much for an unbelievably quick reply.
Do you mean the main oven knob first left. The ON and temp. setting OR are you telling me the oven stat clipped to the backplate which I removed to take out the element, controls the fan as well as the ele. and the fan is wired to the control knob.
The element has definitely blown as it is open circuit on the meter.
I had a vision of connecting the new ele and then blowing that, if the wiring to the element also switches the fan.
    Thanks again

    OK..

An oven thermostat of this era consists of a rotary switch unit, mounted on the oven facia. On the front of it, there is a switch block to operate any ancilliaries; ie turn the knob and you will turn on the oven fan, or the oven light, or the cooling fan, or even combinations of them. The actual thermostat is the rear part and comprise a gas capillary (Long skinny tube), ending in a bulb in the oven box. This is the actual temperature sensor. Heat in the oven expands the gas in the bulb, forces it up the capillary tube and works a pressure diaphragm in the thermostat in order to regulate the temperature.

In this instance, you will be looking at the knob marked “main oven”.

The fan circuit is separate from the element (Hence the separate switch) as it must keep running, regardless of the element cycling with temperature.
