ParticipantHi, My Hotpoint Wf540 washing machine has started to make a strange noise when spinning, after taking the lid off and moving the drum by hand it feels/sounds like there is something between the outer and inner drum casing?
I am not sure if this is possible , if not any ideas guys what it could be?
The sound is one like you were washing some golf balls and they were banging around??Help…please 😀
thanks

It is possible for things to get between the drums, almost always things that shouldn’t have been put in the machine in the first place. :rolls:
You can also get items of small clothing between the drums, this is often due to overloading.
Bearing failure can also cause drum noises.
Your machine could have either the screwed or welded outer drum, you can tell by looking at the outer drum from the top.
If it is the welded drum then you may be in trouble.
You can remove one of the plastic drum lifters and turn the drum to see if you can see anything through the holes under the drum lifter.

i had a look internally by taking one of the drumer lifers out but could not see anything? whilst i had my head in there it sounded as if the noise was coming from the middle of the drum at the back?
Any idea where the bearings are located, i took the concrete block off and the outer casing is cream and although i can not see any screws there looks like the drum is split say 70/30 with 2 clips either side??any ideas, thanks for the initial reply

Just another update i put machine on just now on spin only, no clothes in just a bit of water, it sounds like you are spining a bag of stones when it starts to pick up speed, the noise though seems to be coming from the back of the drum where it joins the pully wheel??
thanks

Its either that or go back to the Indesit Company. If it is under five years old you will get all parts free.
You will only have to pay their very modest :rolls: labour charge of £104.95.
You can’t buy a machine for that price so let them repair it, run it into the ground and buy a decent machine next time round.

Mid range Bosch/Seimens…Our own ISE range, Miele.
Most sub £300 machines on the market now have sealed drums.
For the price the Gorenje aren’t bad.

❗ ❗ sorry for the hijack ❗ ❗
Jim, got a small concern – spoke to HP service earlier this week warrantying a machine for the 5 year parts cover only and theyre telling me that if customer doesnt take out the XTD labour warranty as well the call out is now £105 + 48 (or something close) quid for the the first hours labour. have things changed now? i sold the machine on the premise the 5yrs parts cover was based on a £105 call out charge. are they being sneaky, or just lying to me cos they did sound a bit gutted when they couldnt sell me anything 😀

far as im aware still only 104 no parts being charged for as under 5 years ,less you live in london in which case its then its abit more , but they do try to sell u a yearly warrenty instead of the call out charge which normally cost like 40-50 pounds more i think.

Correct, they are just trying to bump up the bill. I’m surprised they didn’t try to stitch you up for a few doses of descaler at the same time. :rolls:
Labour charge is still a modest £104.95.
They are trying to sell you a further years warranty on a machine that is still under its parts warranty in any event.
