ParticipantHi all,
We’ve got a Diplomat ADP8242 which has developed a fault. Upon starting the device it drains as normal, fills (but only to about 1/2 inch above the bottom – barely touching the heating elements) but then does nothing else – no movement from the arms etc. All there is is a fairly strong mains hum.
When the fault first developed it only became apparent at clearing out time after an overnight run – it obviously had not run a proper cycle – if at all.
On the first diagnosis test run things didn’t sound right so I opened after about 30-45 minutes. On opening the machine there was an awful lot of steam – it seemed abnormally hot (I’ve opened ‘mid-cycle’ before but this seemed something else). Maybe a red herring but trying to give all the info I can think of. Suspect that it may have boiled the elements dry but, as stated above, the ‘fill’ isn’t now covering the elements. It is not heating up.
I’ve tried ‘hard resetting’ – disconnection for over 10 mins just in case the electronics have become confused.
No error code lights are showing – everything looks ‘normal’ from that perspective.
I hate washing up, the missus ain’t so good at it (deliberate?) and the kids don’t know what washing up is – help please!
Thanks in advance
Steve

Circulation pump is not running – if you pop the door open quickly when you hear the humming noise, you should be getting wet…
Motor could be seized, blocked or not getting the starting kick from the capacitor (most likely).
Power off if you intend to deal with this yourself.

Hi Penguin,
many thanks for your assistance. You’re right in that it was the circulation pump not operating. Never found the cause as, in addition to this problem there was evidence of a significant leak which, given the condition of the tiles underneath had been going a while (nothing to do with the circ pump as I could see because all areas around it were dry).
So, looking at a repair bill for at least two problems, the fact that the plastic around the fascia is brittle and cracked, the pull out drawers are rusty, been in daily use for over 6 years and on….
Senior management’s decided a new one would be a good idea. Find it difficult to argue against. So, up with the carbon footprint (this global warming thing seems phoney anyway) and in with the shiny new c**p.
If anyone thinks it’s worth mending it’s free to any home – doesn’t even have to be a good one 😉
