My Smeg SWI612C is leaking into the bottom tray. On invesitgation, it looks as though the leak is coming from the O rings that connect the fill matrix to the water softener unit. The problem I have is that, try as I might, I can’t get the fill matrix removed from the side of the machine.

It appears to be connected via the water softener dial on the inside of the machine. This looks like it should simply screw off, but I can’t get the thing to budge, no matter how much pressure I apply (or how much WD40 I put on the thing).

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed. I did think about tackling the problem from the other end and remove the water softener unit, but that looked a bit more daunting.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Yes this screws off then that gives you axcess to remove the matrix they do need a sharp tap to start them off,try a length of wood and tap it with a hammer try not to knock too many wings off the collar.

Aaarghh – this is so frustrating. Tried tapping the collar loose with a hammer and wood but I just seem to be slowly destroying it. Is there perhaps an alternative I could try?
