ParticipantMistakenly thought I really was the Matrixmaiden – pride comes before a fall. Followed Penguin45’s clear instructions about cleaning the blue tubes out on Zanussi DW890. Put it back together again, ran a cycle, no water went in but heating element started to get very HOT. Panicked and turned it off. What next? Help!

Did you read THIS ARTICLE? If flushing out the blue tubes did not solve the problem, you need to deal with the “horseshoe” hose under the machine.
The heater can only come on if the machine thinks that it is full of water.
Stay safe, power off before going underneath.

Yes, it was those instructions I followed to clean blue tubes. There had been no problem with the machine filling until I meddled with it. I am a bit apprehensive about tackling the horseshoe thing but will do it if no other solution. Is it possible that in cleaning blue tubes I gunged up the plastic pot they slide into? Does the water come up from there? Still panicking, but a little less, thank you!

Yay! I’ve done it! Removed horseshoe hose which was absolutely disgusting, put it back together and bingo. Thank you so much Penguin45, a great help. I know you are an old car fan, it must go with liking to mend dishwashers, mine is the last of the old Minis, needs lots of mending! Many thanks again.

Well done. Bit of patience and a logical mind, most problems can be solved. Even Minis…. 😀

I’d like to see the article on cleaning the blue tubes, but the link ‘this article’ doesn’t work. Can you help?
