I have had a problem with our MW051 tripping the RCD for our laundry, a quick did not reveal any water where it should not be as a likely cause. This problem arose between the two rinse cycles.

I then connected the washer to a non-RCD outlet!!! and the machine ran until it filled for the final rinse before blowing the controller fuse. Another check did not find any stray water or condensation under the main panel.

Today I replaced the fuse and managed to complete the final rinse & spin and ascertain that the disgnostic code is 130. All other diagnostic checks of valaves, lid switch, OOB switch, restart, etc. worked fine. From what I can make code 130 implicates the RPS, but it looks like I have to pull the machine to pieces to check this even if it is a dirty contact – is this correct?

Any ideas as to the root cause of the RCD and fuse-blowing problem?

    Thanks, Greg

    The non-RCD bit was a bad plan….

These machines leak – subtly. If they don’t actually leak, the lower part of the machine is at least damp. 130 is the Rotor Position Sensor and relates specifically to bad wiring, poor connections or a failed sensor. Dombine that with a blown board and you’re facing a big bill, even if you do this yourself.

In spite of the problems outlined in the orginal post the machine it has continued to run, so I tried a suggestion in the service manual and lifted the lid when the machine was spinning at 1000rpm to recreate the fault.

This promptly blew the brake resistor and a semi-conductor adjacent to where the the brake resistor leads connect to the controller board.

My question is, if I check the RPS connection and replace the motor controller, is there likely to be some other damage that may ruin the new controller?

    Thanks
    Greg
