ParticipantHi,
I have a Hoover VHD814 washing machine which has started to miss over half the programs when I try and select them.
Currently it does about 7 out of the 15 programs available as indicated by the machine indications lights (spin speed & Temp lights).
As an example when I move from Off position (12 o’clock) clockwise The intial program of 90deg cottons lights up but does not change to the next program (60deg colourfast) until I have moved the selector dial through 4 or 5 positions i.e. the dial now sits at either the 50deg synthetics or 40deg acrylic programs but is now showing the 2nd program clockwise of 60deg colourfast.
I thought it was just the actual selector dial but after replacing it I still have the same issue.
Any pointers would be greatfully received.Machine is just over 3 years old and typically the extended gurantee ran out in Dec09 🙁
Cheers,

Probably the selector switch at fault – there was a known issue with them. Part no. 41014502 – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply a replacement promptly.

Hi Penguin45,
Thanks for your inputs.
If the part you are suggesting is the actual part that you turn to select the programs then unfortunately I have already changed that without any success. This fault occurred after I had worked on the pump to remove a blockage (kids hairclip) from the pump and once put back together although intially working within 2 washes it started showing up the program fault.
I’m not sure these two incidents are related but worthy of note I thought.Cheers,

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I bought the part from 4cleanerfloors.co.uk before I discovered this site.
Part No = 5045-1712-2689-2Not sure if you allow direct links to the actual part but a quick search for the above part no. on the site will show it.
I assumed it was the correct part?

Ah – bought from one of the Connect Distribution fronts. We have no idea what you’ve fitted, unless there was a manufacturers part number on the actual packet.
The actual part number should have been 41014502.

Participantits hard to say without the correct part number, but it is a 16 position switch
the fault you are describing would normally point to the selector switch being faulty
question is.. is it the same as it was before the switch change or diferent?
if its the same, it might be worth checking the ribbon cable hasnt been rubbing on the drum, i have seen that but its rare as its not normally routed that way
other than that, it HAS to be the pcb
it really does sound like a selector issue, its been a really common issue
the only other thing to check of course is that the selector has 16 clicks instead of 22
report bac, and let us know your findings?

Participanthoovers tech bulletin says
We were recently made aware of some
cases of uncertain functioning of the
Washing Program Selectors quoted in
subject and depicted in the sample of
Picture 1. Said Washing Program
Selectors appear being part of a
limited lot of defective ones, that
were not found by the quality controls.
The three Washing Program Selectors
have same external look and overall
dimensions, the only differences being the color of the driving shaft, that’s different in
accordance with the number of setting positions (white for P/N. 41014502 with 16 setting
positions, red for P/N. 41014503 with 22 positions and violet for P/N. 41028011 with 12
positions). Their uncertain functioning may sometimes result into the setting of a wrong
Washing Program, or even into the impossibility of setting the desired Washing ProgramFebruary 8, 2010 at 12:23 am #310860mack1
ParticipantHi Guys,
Cheers for all the replies.
I have unfortunately ditched both the original part and the packet that the new part came in. The packet was a Hoover branded packet and the switch did work for about 2 washes then the original fault came back.I will see if I can find the part no on the actual switch and report back.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to do this for a few days but will be back in touch probably at the end of the week/weekend.Cheers again,

Participantdont be suprised if the new selectors gone faulty
as per my last post, if its the right switch, it should have a white shaft
good luck

Hi again,
back home know and have taken the switch selector off to have a look at it.
It has a white shaft and has the part no RD2F1A1Q16A 96751 46 on the side of the brown body.
Strangely enough having used the machine for the first time in several days it worked correctly selecting the correct cycle for my needs but on the next wash it skipped every second program and now it is back to the original failure noted on original query. But ….. on taking the selector apart I tried again to check the selections and it appeared to be working!
Not sure what’s going on… might be a loose connection?
Again, any inputs greatfully received.Cheers,

ParticipantJust an update to say that the problem seems to have gone away…for now anyway.
Nearly a week of correct selection of programs.
Thanks for all your help and if it does give up I will be back to order a good one from here.
Cheers,Mack1
