WT540 was initially dead so I sent the module to EMW for repair. When it came back there was a note to say that board failure was due to shorting in the motor. I checked out the (3 phase) motor with the meter and the TOC is open circuit. I’ve drilled out the rivets and dismantled the motor. The TOC looks the same as those on brush motors but I don’t know if the operating temperature would be the same. It is certainly not as easy to renew as its strapped to the windings with 2 cable ties and about a dozen binding cords. A new motor + the EMW bill is likely to make the machine BER so suppose it’s probably worth trying another TOC. Is there any way I can check for shorted turns without running the motor?
As these machines are frequently BER’d for other reasons, I’d be surprised if there weren’t a surfeit of secondhand motors around. Can’t see any on e-bay at the moment but you could post a request in Trade Spares. I’d be surprised if no-one’s got one.
