ParticipantHi,
I have this Brandt built-in dishwasher which came with our flat when we bought it. On Friday it seemed to get into some odd state and refusing to drain, so yesterday I started it again and it drained. However, I then turned it off rather than letting it run full cycle (we have an E10 meter and prefer to run our appliances in the off-peak time). But now it won’t start at all. 🙁
I think it’s got into some error code state, but the manual doesn’t list any details of how to reset it or force it to start. I’ve played with the buttons along the top of the door but to no avail.
The buttons / lights along the top of the door are:
1. Dishes setting button
2. Plates/glasses setting button
3. Bio button
4. Light with symbol –>|
5. Power button
6. Light with arrow symbol –|>
7. Start / cancel button |–> / CCurrently, 4 is lit and 6 is flashing. If I press 7 repeatedly, I get different combinations of flashing, but nothing starts – with the exception that at one point I got both lamps permanently lit, shut the door and there was a short “whirr” from the machine and then nothing.
Anyone know what the lights mean and what combination I need to press to start it going again….?
Thanks.

Possible that flood protection has been activated – water in the tray under the machine operates a floatswitch mechanism and over-rides the programming.
Drain tray to re-set – if it does it again, find the leak.
Power off first, please.

Great suggestion, that could definitely be it. I’ve got as much water out from the inside of the machine as possible with a sponge.
Unfortunately the kick-board is sealed to the kitchen floor which makes it very difficult to get at/under the machine. I guess if we leave it a couple of days the water should evaporate off and it might sort itself out.

Hi,
Any other ideas on this? Our dishwasher eventually started working again after about 7-10 days, but since February this problem has happened at least twice more. It’s just happened again today.
I’ve taken off the kickplate and removed the lower front panel below the door, but can’t see any obvious trip tray or other place that I can clear of water.
I still see the cryptic flashing lights on the door and pressing the right-most button quickly in different patterns changes the way they flash, but none seem to force the machine to spring into life and start working.
I’d really appreciate any help here. It’s very frustrating as there seems to be no real problem with the machine, except that it just stops and fails to drain every couple of months, after which we have to live without a dishwasher for week or two until it starts working again. I’m sure there must be a way to force it to drain and start working?!
Any help really appreciated – and if you need any more information to help me figure out what’s going on (or photos of the machine itself) please let me know.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
If it is the anti-flood that’s being tripped the only solution is to get the machine out, drain it and then try to find out where the leak is from. There is no other option I’m afraid.
You should see a round plastic thing with a poly block in it, that’s the anti-flood device.
From memory and, I could be wrong here, these machines and their variants were prone or the lower spray arm support giving way, firing a jet of water onto the lower door seal which leaked into the base. Worth a look.

Okay, so it started working again, briefly for a couple of days. Now it’s stopped again – in a slightly different way. It just fills, drains and then does nothing each time we start it.
So, we’ve ordered a Bosch to replace it and will Freecycle the Brandt (or skip it). So one more question… I need to remove the kitchen door, how do I tell which screws to undo? Or shall I just unscrew them all?
