ParticipantMy AEG Lavatherm condenser dryer (which I had nothing but trouble with, despite proud “Made in Germany” writing on front panel) stopped working again.
When I start the machine, the Empty Water comes on after roughly 1 minute of operation, despite container being empty and water path clean. I cleaned condenser once again (it is now in better-than-new state), checked that condenser outlet inside of the machine is clean. I also checked that the inlet for for the water container was clean and unobstructed by fluff.
Still, regardless of all that the machine switches itself off after 1 minute of operation.
Then I recalled that this machine has an external outlet (so that water goes straight to drain rather than to container). I changed water path (switched between pipes) at the back of the machine and put a backet under the machine’s drain pipe.
I programmed the machine to use drain pipe rather than the container by following procedure from User Guide:
1. Set machine mode to Light
2. Press Audible signal for 5 seconds
3. Change the mode which appears as U to II.
4. Change machine mode to Off.I double checked that the mode was indeed as it should be (II) and then started the machine. It worked for about 20 minutes and put roughly two litres of water to the bucket, then “Empty Water” indicator came on again and the dryer switched itself off.
Now, on this particular machine the electronics board was changed twice, pump once and drum bearings once, all under warranty (thanks God for John Lewis!). Or at least that’s what I’ve been told.
What do you think guys? Is there a way to repair this machine quickly and cheaply or should it go to scrap and I’ll get Siemens dryer instead? The machine is 8 years (or so) old.
Sorry for such a long post, but I don’t know how to explain it better.
Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Right…
disassembled the machine and found that pump was stuck. Rotated it with finger (for which in needed quite a serious force at first) and it started moving alright.Assembled dryer back and everything seems to be back to normal. We dried 3 washes and no problems were found so far.

Am I being ignored or what? 😯
Ah well… so I’ll continue talking to myself then. BTW, if this forum got some issues with me (not that I am aware of anything like that) , then let me know.
Now, back to the story. The ‘quick fix’ I described earlier didn’t work. The machine did 4 dries and stopped working again, exhibiting the exactly the same type of a problem as described above.
Do you think that changing the pump would help?
This is the part:

Hi.
I would think that the condensation pump should certainly be replaced. I have had numerous issues with them myself.

TSD is right – these modern magnetic lift pumps are a real pain.

The part arrived promptly (thanks UKW!), fitted it and the problem seems to be resolved. Did 5 drying cycles now, works like new.
Fingers crossed it’ll work for some time now – I hate throwing away things that can be easily fixed! 🙂

Same story again… I thought that the pump should last slightly more than year and a half. 🙁

Ran a not-so-quick check and it seem that the pump is not at fault in this case. The issue is that when I switch the dryer on and select the program, it shows correct amount of minutes left, then changes it randomly.
So, for example, it can be showing 102 minutes, then it shows 0 (15, 34, etc) minutes and switches itself off after that time is passed.
I know this problem from the past – it happened first two months after I bought the dryer and service engineer replaced the entire electronic board. After that the dryer worked for 10 years, so I assume the engineer was right.
So it looks like the AEG goes to landfill and will be replaced with Siemens machine (at least the warranty with them is long).
