ParticipantHi, our tumble dryer has been grumbling at us – sounded like a pound or two of new potatoes inside it. I have had a look at the rear bearing and it is very loose in the spider, however the spider looks OK.
How do I remove the bearing please? It looks as if I need to drill out the rivets that secure the spider – is this correct?
With thanks in advance,
Simon

Remove the copper earth strip – this should reveal a screw head through the centre hole in the back of the drum.
You’ll need THIS LITTLE LOT.

hmmm – nice repair, hasn’t sorted the noise out 🙁
The fan attached to the end of the motor is off centre and loose on the shaft; that doesn’t look right! Looked at other posts and think this is the culprit.

That’s the little tike! Thanks for your help – spare part on the way.
Btw, why are tumble dryers so expensive compared to washing machines? Is it simply market forces, or is it that they are really more complicated than they look?
Thanks again,
Simon

White Knight? Hideously cheap and nasty bit of kit, as are the the bulk of sub £250 machines. You get what you pay for – trouble is there is a large part of the population who don’t wanrt to pay, so lots of under-priced, under-engineered and short life appliances out there.

Thanks – I have had a good look at the ISE stuff, and the washing machine in particular looks outstanding.
Just fyi the link to the ISE site on the review page http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … tent&id=59 is broken: it has a typo and links to http://www.iseapliances.co.uk/ .
Thanks again for your help and advice on this superb forum.
