The washing machine seems to go through a cycle, but the drum does not appear to rotate during any part of the cycle.
The cold-water inlet is clear and water enters ok through the soap powder tray at the beginning of the wash and warm water is pumped out of the drain hose at the end of the wash. The drum does not rotate.
An amount of cold water enters the drum in spurts during the rinse phase and is pumped out successfully. The drum does not rotate.
During the spin, the machine attempts to pump any water out, but the drum does not rotate.
At the end of the cycle the pre-wash light flashes 4 times repeatedly.
Any advice please?
Cheers

ParticipantThe most probable cause is worn brushes in the motor . 4 flashes indicates motor not turning properly.
If its the brushes you’ll need 154740 – £25odd + VAT.
If you’re unlucky , the motor may be cooked but at £200:00 , its a lot to lay out on a 15 yr old machine .February 16, 2010 at 11:12 pm #312212Gavin Edwards

Thank you Paul, I’ll change them out.
I read on another thread that there is an equivalent set of brushes: CBN9121 which is a lot less expensive. Are these suitable for my machine?

Pattern brushes are available from the UKWhitegoods shop HERE. Let’s face it, we need the money. 😀
If you use them, make absolutely sure that they are free to move in the brush holders, or problems will quickly ensue.

Thanks guys. The brushes did the trick. Cleaned up the commutator and replaced the brushes. Switched the machine on and it started up immediately.
One word of warning to others, though. The copper wire is fragile where it fits into the carbon brush. Broke one of them and had to get a second replacement from a friendly repair man.
