ParticipantZanussi FLS 1383W washing machine
Everything else on the machine works (fills, washes, drum rotates & drains) except when it gets to the spin part of the cycle the machine just sits there with the drain pump running – no drum rotation at all.
Sometimes the timer will advance to the end of the program and other times the machine sits there with the drain pump running until the timer is manually moved to the end.
Is it likely to be the timer that’s gone or could a water level/pressure switch cause the problem?
Many thanks

Hi.
Have the motor brushes been checked?

I haven’t checked them yet but can do tomorrow – is there easier access to them from the top or the bottom of the machine?
After trying out a few more wash programmes, I found it does do a normal length short spin at the end of the prewash cycle but only on tha one.
Thanks

Hi.
The motor is located underneath the tub so easy access is found from underneath.

I checked the brushes, they seem ok, plenty of length left on them.
Anythingelse to check?
Thanks

The air chamber is next to check. It is where the black rubber hose from the pressure switch goes to. They get all gunged up & can cause all sorts of issues.

If what the spin doctor suggests does not cure then I would suggest that it could be the module fitted to the lower rear rh side of cabinet. (looking from front)
I have had several of these causing no spin and stopping the timer from advancing.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLS1383 doesn’t spin,
Ok I’ve had the machine apart.
Cleaned the slight amount of carbon dust around the brushes, checked the air chamber is all clean (there wasn’t any gunk in it), examined the module Geoff suggested but can’t see any burnt out components or dry joints and I don’t have any spare to swap it with (!)
After turning the machine on, the timer just clicked forward every 4 seconds until it got to the last rinse stage where upon it started taking in water & then pumping it out again.
Turned the mains off & on several times but the timer just kept clicking on and then settled down to washing normally. So far it’s done about 4 complete wash cycles properly but I’ve no idea what caused it to stop spinning.
Many thanks for the help & if it starts acting up again I’ll update this post.

Hi.
You might want to check that the motor tachometer is not loose. This is on the opposite side to the motor shaft & has 2 thin wires going to it.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLS1383 doesn’t spin,
After several days of washing properly, it’s gone back to not stopping after completing a wash cycle. Gets to the end of programme and then just starts washing again.
I’d love to fix this as inside the machine is spotless & in such good condition & I’d hate to chuck it out.
I’ll be pulling it apart again tomorrow to have a look at the motor tachometer.
Thanks

Just to finish off the thread…
Called an engineer around to look at it & he said it was the timer so given the cost of a new timer, the machine is heading for the tip. Unless anyone has details on what part goes on the timers & whether it’s fixable.

Thanks Phidom, that’s perfect.
That’s just saved a perfectly good washing machine from being junked.
Many thanks for your help. -
