ParticipantHi All
My 3-year old Hotpoint AQXXD169PM decided to stop spinning today – I’m not particularly impressed as it’s never been subjected to what I would call ‘hard use’ and never been overloaded (which admitedly would be hard to do on one of these machines).
For half its life there were only 2 of us using it, and now I’m divorced I have been the only user for the past year and a half.
On average, about 2 or 3 washes per week I would say. When it reaches the spin cycle, the drum continues to rotate slowly and the pump continues to operate as it should. There is no water left in the drum, so the pumping seems to be fine. However, the drum does not gather speed. I have tried various cycles.
When I remove all items from the drum and run a cycle it does spin as normal, so any sort of load is preventing it from doing so. I have removed the items then just put a bed sheet back into the drum, but still it doesn’t spin.Do any of you experts have any clues for me please, as I’m fairly handy when it comes to taking things apart? However, I don’t really understand all the sensor modules on the newer machines (if that’s the cause).
Many thanks in advance.
Al

Try a full load and let it go through the cycle
an uneven load can cause this sort of problemFebruary 20, 2010 at 7:30 pm #312663helo_75

Hi to helo_75 and DDSDDS,
Many thanks and how stupid do I feel!
Before you think ‘not another newbie who doesn’t read the sticky threads’, I had read the thread you posted helo_75, but as I had tried the cycle with just a single item and it still didn’t spin, I thought there was a real problem. However, as you suggested, I loaded it today with a full load, and hey presto! Strange that the uneven load sensor had kicked in for the first time in 3 years however, as the load was no different to any I have used before.
Something else learnt from this excellent website.
