ParticipantModel WM-1280FHD. Customer has had problems with the door seal retainer falling off and leaks from around the door seal. I refitted the retainer, the spring did not appear to have stretched so I didn’t renew it. I tried a rinse and spin and there were no leaks but I noticed there is about 5mm in and out play in the door when it’s closed. It’s as though either the door seal has shrunk or the interlock is damaged somehow. The door pecker looks OK, not at an angle or anything. Are there any known issues with these LG doors, seals etc?

Might be stating the obvoious but is the door frame attached to the hinge snugly? There are white plastic collars on the hinge pins, if these pins get lost or break the door frame will be loose on the hinge and that may give you the play you’ve described and the potential to leak?

Yes, I checked for play at the hinge and it seemed fine.

One of my customers had an LG for about 5 years till the bearings/motor went. She had LG out under twice guarantee, first time to refit the retainer and second time they replaced the seal and the retainer. I then came along each year on average to refit the retainer. I even tried debor glueing it to the frame in the end, but even upon it’s demise I noticed the seal was out of place at the top. I’ve seen other LG’s, but never this problem. I did suggest being careful when unloading as I thought it was dragged out of place when the duvet got greedy and eat all the other washing.

The customer did say she bought the 7Kg machine so it would take a king size duvet. That might explain the retainer problems but what about the door movement?

I have a call to see a WM1280FHD next week. Rusty brown marks on the floor with a noisy spin. I’ll take a look at the door on this one. 5mm is a lot of play. To be honesty I’m only going to look at if out of curiosity as the machine sounds a bit terminal. Gord

These machines were over £600 when new so a bearing job might be worthwhile. I’ve no idea what’s involved though as I’ve never done a direct drive machine.

Looks like 4mm of play to me. Customer has never had a prob with the door or seal. The customer told me the machine had been noisy for several weeks. They carried on using it till the motor shorted the power board. Still I disconnected it for them and carried it outside so they could clean the heavily stained floor to keep them happy.
I can never understand why some people think it’s still OK to use a machine when it’s making such a racket. This customer told me they had to stop putting on at night as it was waking them up. They only sort me out when it ground to a halt! Gord

Perhaps the doors are all like that then. Thanks.

Hi Phidom did you manage to sort this problem. I was called to one of these m/cs two weeks ago where the retainer had come off so I just put it back on but now the customer says its off again .Is this a common prob on these m/cs?

I think Phidom went off to Hungary a couple of months ago, Tom and has not been seen here since. You could try a pm.

Yes, if the retainer comes of once it is likely to happen again. Glue it to the front panel with a bead debor on the inner edge.
