ParticipantI have a problem with my Samsung P1253 washer it’s approx 3 years old. There is a knocking noise which is worse at the very end of the cycle. With an empty drum there is no noise?
I have tried shaking the drum but I cannot detect any play in the drum bearings.
Any ideas please?
Video of noise…please listen to the very end of the video the noise is apparent at the very end.

Loose weight.
Loose drum pulley.
Broken drum spider.
Bearings knocking.
Most likely one of the above is causing it and there’s only one way to find out…. open it up and look see what’s up.
By the sounds though, although it’s a bit of a guess based on experience, it does sound like the drum spider.

Thank you for that useful information.
Any idea if bearing kits are available for this model? and is it much of a job to strip down the drum on this model?
I have changed bearings in the past which was many years ago. I suppose the new models are not so much for the DIY person?March 2, 2010 at 11:22 am #313496kwatt
KeymasterThe bearings probably are available but I’d need to do some digging to find them I expect as Samsung will only supply a rear half complete at over £100, well over.
Don’t expect a drum to be much, if any, less.
But to find out exactly you’re going to have to strip it down and I’ve never done one (thankfully ;)) so I’ve no idea how hard it is.

First things first…. what did I win? 😉
No, sorry the drum only comes complete, is showing as out of stock and costs over £100 plus VAT.

Yes well done with your analysis.:salute:
I don’t think I will bother with a new drum it’s not economically viable to do.
What causes this kind of corrosion the machine is only a few years old?March 5, 2010 at 7:05 pm #313501kwatt

I suspect, but can’t outright prove in every case that it is a combination of low temperature washing all the time, the improper use of detergents and the lack of any sort of maintenance washing going on.
And that has caused the premature death of many a washing machine.
