Have just had a new Bosch dishwasher installed and want to get off on the right foot..and have searched the Forum as best I can but not found this question answered…

We live in a very hard water area, and have a Water Softener machine fitted. Assuming our water was thus soft already, we never bothered to put any salt into our old dishwasher, which performed satisfactorily for about 7 years daily family use.

The manual tells me how to set the new Dishwashers’ sensor to Zero, so that it will not try to use any salt, and will not keep showing the Reminder light. Currently it is factory pre-set at 2, i.e. Medium Hardness.

SO should I set it to Zero and never add any salt (keeping my Softener fully operational), or should I STILL use appropriate salt in my Dishwasher – and if so, should I recalibrate the Sensor to just ‘Soft’ / softest? 😕

In a very hard water area, yes, you still need salt even when using the forty million in one wunder tablets or whatever they’re flogging in Tesco these days. 😉

Failure to do so will cause issues, generally poor wash results among other things become possible if not inevitable.

    K.
