ParticipantI dare say all of us who have their own business get pestered every few months by Yell.com. I had a particularly pushy bloke on the mobile this afternoon. I’ve not committed to anything but here is an extract from a follow up email he sent me:
“15mm x 60mm (4 lines of text including your business name) box advert in
your local Yellow Pages with a circulation of over 275,000
Free Yell.com Listing
Call Tracking Number to monitor the leads you get
Pay interest free over 10 months
Internet Advertising online straight awayCost including VAT £150.10 for the year – Nothing to pay until May and you
can pay interest free over 10 months **You need literally 1 job over the whole year to pay for this advertising
which you will get from your Yell.com before you even come to pay for your
Yellow Pages advert.”I don’t see where he gets the one job a year claim.
😕 I’ve never done any good with Yellow pages in the past but perhaps the online version is getting more popular?March 11, 2010 at 7:48 pm #314709A1TEC

Agreed. Used to spend over a grand on yell.com for several categories. Typed in my own town and there I was at the top because I have a website. Type in any other town, not there. I would have to pay premium to be in the list of neighbouring towns. I will appear eventually, but a long way down, and only if the punter chose “Vicinity”
Looked at my website on Google Analytics, 2 referrals from yell.com in a year. Soon put a stop to that.
The fact I thought I was already paying a premium and yet for what? I soon realised I was being fleeced. Have not bothered this year. Yell.com rep got really shirty, and slammed the phone down when I told him a visit would be a waste of his time as well as mine.
Has it been noticed that you now get 2 reps, one from Yellow Pages, then one from Yell.com

Something to watch out for. Noticed browsing Yell’s terms and conditions a new term that they may “offer” automatic renewal. If you don’t contact them to cancel your advertising after they write to you, they will automatically repeat your advertising the following year.

Total waste of time and money.
I always stick to the logic if there ringing you, its for there interest not yours.

I’m absolutely gobsmacked 😯 . I decided to go with this advertising package for the PAT testing side of the business and today received the proof for my ad. in Electrical Inspection & Testing. I was just amending the proof when the phone rang. It was someone else from Yell.com. Now it seems I have only agreed to go in the Aberdeen Yellow Pages book, not Yell.com!
I can easily believe they would misrepresent the advertising over the phone but for them to have the nerve to back up the falsehood by email beggars belief. 👿
I think I will print out the email and put it in with the proof, after writing on it “Please confirm that this is the package I have purchased.” -
