ParticipantAny computer boffs know the answer to this 😉
Have searched for ‘Washing machine repairs in bristol’
Just to see if our web site / business is listed.
I find that i can search on one PC and be on the fist page near the top 😀
Use a second PC on the same router in the same location etc. May not come up at all 😕
Even from a different part of the country it can vary 😕
Why is this ❓

I searched your site on google using ‘Washing Machine Repairs Bristol’ and you came halfway down page 7 in fact.

Just looking at the ‘source code’ of your website I would suggest that one of the main reasons is that both your meta tags and keywords contain little information for search engines to rate your site higher. Search engines need loads and loads of keywords in order to climb the ranks. And the only way you can do that and be on the first page of any search without altering your site is to pay the likes of Google for ‘adwords’ and the like. But that then can be costly. 🙁
I’d put in a whole mess of keywords onto your site if I were you. Without that info your site will dance around various pages from page one to ten or worse in any search. Washing machine repairs in Bristol, vacuum cleaner repairs in Bristol etc just isn’t enough stuff.

Thanks for that Martin,
Interesting, way over my head 😕
The search for ‘Washing machine repairs in bristol’ is just something that some one may use to find us. If they know who we are its not a problem.
This sentance is amongs our text in the web site so is this not ‘key words’.:oops:But its just strange that two computers networked can come up with different rankings.
I will get my man on to it to see if he can sort it. 😆

KeymasterRe: Google Search
Google pays attention to meta tags, just not a huge amount.
Meta tags have become less important in recent times for newer search engine technologies as they are easy to cheat I’m afraid but, they are still worth doing as many older search engines still index them.
It is possible that a thing called “Google Local” has kicked in with the “Bristol” keyword in the search and, depending on the IP of the PC it may display different results, if you’re on a rolling IP address from your ISP.
Keywords are a black art TBH.
You also have to bear in mind that it can often take months, if not over a year, for work you do today to actually start to reap rewards. You don’t just plonk stuff up online with a secret sauce and get instant results, that’d be far too easy.
Search engines algorithms are becoming extremely complex and there’s an entire industry as well as a sprawling and massive community that try to figure this stuff out. Which is difficult when the rules of the game are largely a well kept secret of the major search engines. It doesn’t stop people from trying though.
