My thanks to Penguin for guidance re new thread.

Ser. No. 42468502My machine has ceased to heat the water and dry the dishes. It runs a (non-eco mode) cycle apparently as normal but when finished the dishes remain wet and the chamber cold, whereas before the dishes were clean, dry and residual heat remained in the chamber.
From the many other threads on this subject that I have read, it seems that the two main culprits in this scenario can be the heating element and/or the PCB. I have stripped the casing and it appears the this machine is fitted with a cylinder type heating element situated in the plumbing at the lower rear of the machine. Is that correct?
If I have identified it correctly, as a first step, how do I test it with my multimeter and what should I find? Any advice will be much appreciated.

If it’s “Made in Germany”, it’ll be one of the last AEG appliances. The tube heater should give a resistance reading of 25-30 ohms when spilt from the circuit. If the connector plug is not burnt and you have continuity from the pcb to the heater if you follow the wiring back, the pcb will be faulty. Always worth checking the pcb for burnt-out solder joints around the relays; a very common problem.
Your machine is a European one, so does not appear on my technical disc. This means I can’t offer you part numbers for replacement parts.
Good luck with it – stay safe, power off if working on the machine.

You are absolutely right it is a European machine having been bought in France, where we are at present.
I’ve removed the heater cylinder and the resistance reading between the contacts is 25/26 ohms. There is no sign of arcing or burning at the contact plug. So it would appear that the unit is OK(?)
I traced the wiring circuit back from the plug to the door panel and located and removed the PCB from it.
It bears a sticker with the following data:-

DATE 142-04It has no obvious external signs of damage or scorching. However, following your excellent advice I examined the back of the board and, as you predicted, I found a burnt out connection to a 12 volt relay pin.
I could re-solder the joint and re-assemble the machine but I’m wondering if the relay might be faulty which has caused the burnt connection? I’m also thinking it might be more prudent to replace the PCB to avoid future faults and having to dis-assemble the whole lot again?
Your experience and further guidance would be much appreciated.

If you are of an electronic bent, the relay can be replaced. In the UK, Radio Spares, Maplins and the like will be able to match it easily. Got to be worth a punt soldering it – use some wire to reinforce the joint.
Replacing the entire pcb means that you are starting the cycle to failure all over again… Your call, of course.

Eureka! It works!!
Having re-soldered the dry joint, replaced the PCB and re-assembled the machine – he presto – we have heat!
My heartfelt thanks to Penguin45 without who’s advice I could not have achieved the repair.
Now my dear wife tells me the washing machine isn’t heating the water…….. here we go again!
