ParticipantWould appreciate some advice on a bearing change for one of those LG washers with the “built in motor” mounted on the back of the tub (where the pulley wheel normally goes) Model LG WM1285FHD
I have not done of these (I’ve done “normal” LGs which were reasonably easy) so how do you get at the bearings, do you have to take out the whole plastic tub and split it in half or can it all be done just by removing the motor unit and done from the back?
Is it a spider replacement also (this one is just rumbling, no broken spider)? Do I need a stiff drink before taking this on? Should I avoid totally and go do a hotpoint WM instead??
Advice much appreciated, thanks.

It is quite nice to work on. Motor off, tub out and split, pretty standard bearings too if i remember correctly.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I actually found this machine a real pleasure to work on, as the standard of engineering is first rate. I wish all appliances were built like this! I really like the integral-with-the-tub motor. If I could afford it, I would buy one of these!
Regards

MyfilAgree with all of that with reservations about motor reliablility, not from own experience but from reading on here. And parts availability and price is a bit spasmodic.
Also, why is it the LG bearing sets always last exactly 7 (seven) years?

These bearings only lasted 3 years.

It’s about the life cycle of the machine.
A real cheap and nasty budget job may have a destruction cylce as low as 600. 600 washes and that’s your lot as far as the design life is concerned. It rises with price/brand and possibly ethics of the producer.
