I have 11 flashes on Whirlpool ADG 6340/1 which most have said is a Water Sensor fault. I need to know how I locate the water sensor to clean it.

There are 12 versions of this machine – the 12nc number would help narrow things down.

The fault implies that the optical water sensor is at fault – it is not fitted to any of these machines as far as I can tell, so you should be looking at the black grille at 3 o’clock in the sump of the machine. It’s a diaphragm switch. These fill up with fatty deposits under the grill and prevent the switch behind from working properly. You may be able to scrub it clear with an old toothbrush and plenty of hot water. It’s a twist-fit from under the machine if more intensive cleaning is required. The microswitch can fil as well.

Power off if you think you need to remove the sensor.
