ParticipantHaven’t looked a microwaves for a few years and have forgotten how to fault find on them. Whatever the timer is set on it cuts out after 10 seconds, the light goes out and the turntable stops but the fan keeps running for about a minute, even after several attempts no heat is generated in a cup of water, please advise

Could be magnatron fault, had a commercial Panasonic do the same thing.

Hi John
is there a test for the magnatron ?

You can check between the terminals for a reading and between the terminals and the body of the mag.
I cheat a little, got a plastic block that lights up like a disco if microwaves are being transmited. 😆

Meant to say reading should be less than 1 ohm across the terminals if mag is o.k.

What model is it? It could possibly be the inverter at fault.

If it has an inverter board pretty much guaranteed to be the magnetron.
Check the magnetron for earth leakage and also have a good look at the magnet had quite a few where the magnet is cracked this caused the machine to shut down.
Hope that helps

Hi. In your first post you said it cuts out after 10 seconds.
Could you check again and see exactly how many seconds? (My apologies if it is in fact 10) It could point us to a more accurate diagnosis

I would definately be looking at the magnets on the magntron, you can normally see if they are cracked.
