ParticipantWhich stat would you use for a 2 cabinet single stat fridge freezer.
if i use a vt9 they sometimes dont seem to defrost properly.
if i use a vxo they dont seem to get cold enough.
i have tryed wpl, ranco & danfoss stats ( wpl seem best ? )
anyone any ideas on this.
I dont want to stock the vast range of manufacturer spares as i repair all makes of ref.April 8, 2004 at 1:16 pm #110664Dave_Conway

We tend to stick to the Ranco VT9’s on the whole and the VXO’s for the Candy, Servis etc.
Never really have any problem with them, although Danfoss are considered the better quality stat, they are highly priced by comparison.
The defrost problems are normally associated with the universal stats and the overlong capillary, so placement is particularly important, ie, don’t stuff the excess behind the evaporator.

I think you have to consider that the switch on ..off of the stats are not the same, there are slight differences which are accentuated by the length of capillary.
Wet wall are not the same as the old exposed evap plate and these days modern techniques in forming cabinetts from a single mould have a profound effect on the insulation properties of the insulation. Add in to that the design and apparent cost saving in that design and you’ll be lucky to get a universall stat to work correctly.
How many of you transfer the original white sleeving that insulated the original capillary to the VT9 you are fitting…………TED

Most probably if it’s removable. At the moment i’m buying the Hotpoint one’s at a very reasonable price and the capillary is alreay insulated 🙂
