It’s a surface mounted resistor. The 102 is its value but it’s not 102 ohms. It’s some sort of code which I can never remember so best way to find out is compare it with other smd resistors of same value elsewhere on board. (Sure to be some.)
You can get spares from

Cheers Mike… I thought it was a resistor but didn’t want to just guess at it .. I think it is blown by the looks of it so I shall measure from another on the board… The MAC97A8 triac has been blown apart too at the other side of that varistor and Im presuming this little sod is the cause… will let you know when I test.

I don’t think the resistor would cause the triac to blow. Rather more likely that something (interlock, pump…) caused the triac to blow and the resistor just went along for the ride.
The RS site BTW is rather large and at the moment seems to be running very slow. If you find it difficult, “zoom out” and try a new way in. 😉

i might be completely wrong here in which case whoever corrects me please dont make it obvious they are correcting me so i can edit the post… 8)
but i thought the resistors between triacs were to protect the triac… ?

You could be right in some instances, I think, but OTOH, I don’t think washing machine manufacturers in general are much interested in protecting triacs if it means spending an extra couple of pennies.

Hi Mike… I do use both RS and Farnells for my parts.. as well as reclaiming them from the many boards that people send me via our website.

There are many varisters on the board protecting the triacs. Together with ‘broken souldered joints on the power plug’ (Possible spike), and the fact that this particular triac is situated in the tracks of a relay, this particular blow-out could have a source of one of many, including this little bugger.
