Hi, hopefully someone can help me fix my dishwasher. I found info on here that helped me fix my washing machine so thanks for that 😀

Onto the dishwasher. We bought it used and it worked for a while but then just stopped, the dial just stopped and the dishes weren’t washed. Upon further investigation it seems that it isn’t filling, it makes a gurgling sound when turned on which is the machine draining…if I pour some water in, it is emptied when I turn it on.

But gurgling is as far as it gets, no water flows in.

Any help in tracing the problem would be welcome.

    Mark…

After the initial pump out ( gurgling ) it should stop to fill up. If it keeps on draining for more than five minutes then it could well have a flooded base.

It it stops pumping after a minute or so and then stops dead it could be a faulty fill valve, pressure switch, wiring or control timer.

Hmm, it keeps pumping out for ages.
What causes the base to flood ??

Internal leaks or possibly oversoaping. very common on Indesit dishwashers if you use combination tablets.

Remove the mains plug, place some towels on the floor and tilt it to one side.

If water runs out then you can retry. If the fault returns very soon then you will have a leak that needs isolating and repairing if possible.

The base will remove to access the innards.

Best to use separate detergent, rinse aid and if required salt.

We did use tablets. Just a two layer one, Tesco value ones and also used a separate rinse aid plus salt.

I’ll give it a try in a while and use separate detergent powder if it starts working.

THanks for the help so far 🙂

Well I tipped it on it’s side and nothing came out, the towels stayed dry.

I may have misdiagnosed the noises. When I tried it again with the dishwasher out from under the worktop I could hear the water flowing into it but the pump is running continuously so it is just pumping it straight back out down the drain.

I’ve left it and it has done so for at least 5 mins. If I manually advance the controller it will stop filling but at no point does the pump seem to turn off and it stop emptying.

This machine has an old style mechanical timer, fault could be control timer, pressure switch or overflow micro switch.

Pure speculation in the absence of doing any electrical tests though. 😥

Well for what it cost and the age of it then it seems it may end up being replaced as I wouldn’t even know where those components are hiding on it. If I could find them I do have a DMM to do continuity tests but I understand that you can’t exactly advise some to start messing with electrics 🙂

    Thanks for your help.
