ParticipantA bit of a delicate one this, but here goes. How do fellow agents find Anglo Iberian Services these days?
Do you think the rate is sufficient when you take into consideration the placement of the product as well as the complexity?
Are you finding there are a high proportion of double calls?
Do you get most calls relating to ranges or chimney hoods?
Do you find it difficult to identify parts?
Do you find yourself having issues with any members of AIS staff? (not management)
Are you happy with the 60 days payment regime?
The reason for the above is that we as a company are only receiving £28 per call for a lot of the work. I find that is not acceptable these days considering the skill sets that are required. We have not had an increase for well over 2 years and there is no augmentation for gas calls, naturally a review is seriously overdue.
I have discussed my concerns with Graham Smy and he assures me that there are moves to improve on the rates, but he is in the process of negotiation with manufacturers. Therefore I’m giving him the opportunity with my support to press our case and seek a sensible return. Graham is aware though that I will not tolerate things as they stand for too long as we are losing money per call, which cannot be sustained for much longer. I suspect I’m being naive in hoping we shall be able to make up the shortfall in the future, but I am prepared to give the guy a chance. If it wasn’t for the fact Graham was so nice and helpful, he would have been seeking a new agent for this area long ago. That could still happen, and it would be a shame.
Something that was brought up at the recent Whitegoods meeting at Sibson, was that manufacturers would like to be kept “live” regards the status of the calls. A very good point, after all we need to have a sensible rate, and to justify this we could give them something in return. If they pay us a realistic return, then I have no problem in supplying information on a daily basis to whoever, as long as there is a working system put in place.
Comments and consructive input on the above would be appreciated.

Well, like many others probably, I let AIS off the hook with a lot because I’ve worked with Graham for years on end, in fact IIRC since AIS started and all that you say is true Alex.
For the hoods I’ve started pre-ordering spares as there’s just no point in even calling without some spares on board for the call in most instances. This is not really AIS at fault, just the way that the market has gone with a multitude of different appliances with, in many cases, ludicrous spares pricing that thwarts any attempt at holding a stock of any great degree. That aside, yes, the rates from AIS are far too low and I too have spoken with Graham on many an occasion about it as well but owing to the allegiance that I feel I owe AIS I have never taken any action on it.
I have gotten a bit tougher of late with many things AIS related but still nowhere near as rigid as I have been with others, but then AIS are usually pretty reasonable on the whole if you encounter any problems.
The problem for me is that unless you get a decent first-fix rate you ain’t making any money, given the rates with AIS and the range of product involved I sure ain’t making any money from AIS. The problem I have is, that when the rates are as low it’s a case of “we’ll do it when we can and we’re in the area concerned” as opposed to just getting the job done, but the rate simply does not allow for that.
I will give AIS every opportunity I can as they’ve helped me in the past as well but we’ll see what shakes out with the rate review.

I sent a letter of termination to A.I.S. a week ago, 29th April to be exact.
To date I’ve not had a reply, not even a phone call. This concerns me as I would have expected at least an inquest or enquiry from Graham Smy.

Just put this up again as it was lying dormant, thought a bit of profile wouldn’t go amiss. No change from the above, still no phone call etc. They (AIS) tried sending me a Lofra call and considering Lofra owe me money, I faxed it back. Not even that action generated a response from AIS. The call did come back through ISDA but once I put Wendy in the picture, that was the end of that. I will be going legal with Lofra very soon.
What I find disconcerting is after many years loyal service to AIS and what I thought was a good rapport, no phone call from Graham, nothing. No doubt they have something in place as we finish in a weeks time, and we will stop accepting new work as from Monday 24th May.
Sad really they couldn’t take the trouble to pick up the phone, no doubt they are aware as to my reasoning and either reluctant or not in a position to discuss the matter.
