ParticipantAfter wash cycle complete, there is a residue of fabric softener and
water in the middle compartment. On close examination of this compartment, there is no low level drain hole. Also, the blue tube on the removable insert is only a loose fit over the corresponding tube in the white drawer moulding, so presumably no syphon action there either.I am wondering how this compartment was ever designed to empty completely, but when the machine was newer, funnily enough it did seem to empty fully.
Any suggestions?

The tube is meant to be a loose fit in order for the syphon to work. If the tube and the corresponding passage in the drawer are clear of blockages it should drain.

ParticipantWhat you’ve described is more a case of the holes being blocked where the water comes out of the roof area that fills the conditioner compartment. A lack of flow means not enough water etering the conditioner compartment and therefore not raising it enough to start the syphon action.
Once you’ve removed the drawer , look upwards into the roof area. Is it all gunged up with black mould ?
I’m betting that the centre section , whether the 4 hole or the multi-hole version will be clogged and the source of your problem. To test the syphon device , fill the detergent drawer conditioner compartment slowly from your sink tap and see if it starts flowing out the back once it reaches a certain level.

Cheers to nomadpaul and Phidom!. You were both dead right fellas. Cleaned off the gunge adn it works OK, just a v small drop of liquid in the compartment and yes, testing the siphon does prove the point. I need to go back to school on syphons!.

I want to continue my efforts to clear the black mould from the inlet holes above the soap dispenser. Problem is all the crud will then go into the next wash cycle as that is the only way to get the inlet solenoid to open.
Is there a way to start the machine, wait till water has flowed ino the drum then abort the wash cycle to hurry things up?
Years ago in the days of clockwork programmers, I recall an engineer did something similar and rotated the program knob and overrode the clockwork motor. Made an awful graunching sound but he seemed happy.
Can you do anything similar with modern electronics?

ParticipantPut it onto a rinse cycle but with no clothes in it. Will open all the valves at some stage during the 20min cycle .
