ParticipantUKW / E-spares etc. have retail on one of these about £37. Cheapest trade I can find is £14.85 + the usual from Masterpart. I don’t mind making £15 mark up but I just feel a bit ill at ease telling customer that ten minute job will cost around £50/£60. I think there must be something a lot cheaper around which would do the job just as well or better. It’s only got to fit the hole and be activated by the pecker. Can always change connectors.
Has anyone been there before and wouldn’t mind sharing the info?

if your Conscious pricks you that much, with your mark up dont charge as much, make a customer happy.
TELL..
sorry mate but i’m old school, you will make twice as much for a fair and good job, she will tell her friends, do a bad job and not a fair price, she will tell everybody. it’s your business.
dont mean to be harsh, but thats how i feel.April 12, 2010 at 12:44 am #317424leavemetogetonwithit

Well, truth is I’ll have to order it from Connect at £19.95 or something like that, (not going to check right now as computer on brink.) Because only Connect have the other bits I want enabling me to make up a half decent order. Add a share of the delivery charge and vat on all of it and it’s over £25 just for the part.
What I will charge is not really the point, as you correctly say that’s my business and I have run it perfectly well for many years, except perhaps I tend to undercharge compared to most I read on here.
I just feel that a simple lock didn’t ought to cost so much. But I had a good search around and couldn’t find anything remotely looking like it would fit so unless someone here knows of one then the order will go ahead tomorrow.
Mike.
PS If you think my mark up is extortionate, remember it’s based on UKW shop@’s price for the part – so you must be accusing them of extortion, too.April 12, 2010 at 12:52 am #317425Penguin45

I have mentioned this before, to howls of derision, on several occasions.
My customers get their parts at the price I pay for them and I will produce my invoice to prove it. The exception is exchange parts, where I add on the return postage. I make my money on my labour charge, which around Leeds is not particularly cheap. Overall, in real terms, my customers probably pay less overall, whilst maintaining my profitability.
Marking up spares for the third time, especially if you are compelled to buy from a rip-off wholesaler, is perilously close to theft, in my opinion.

If it’s 6601ER100A I have one you can have. I ordered the wrong one last time I did an LG. I think I still owe you a favour anyway.

Thanks for the offer Phidom. I can’t find the OPN but it’s the black one that has the socket for three tag connector in the side as opposed to above or below. Also fits some old AEGs. Has larger than usual opening for the door pecker.
(To Chris) When you become our new Penguinist dictator I promise I’ll recant my wicked ways. Hey maybe this election could be the big opportunity you’ve been waiting for. 😆

When the Penguinista take over, there will not be an election. The human race will surrender….

Sorry Mike, that’s the sort I needed for my job so the one I have here is wrong for yours too. 🙁

😆 No worries. Will finally send this order off tomorrow and due to a few extras being needed it will go above threshold. Result!

Yes, its a pain trying to make up a viable order these days. All I need at the moment is a knob for a Hotpoint cooker but if I have to pay £6 postage it makes it a very dear knob. 🙁

£7
£5.95 x 1.175 = £6.99.
😉
