Anyone fancy a nice (well I think it’s nice okay ;)) membership certificate for their wall?

    Here’s the deal…

To do a membership certificate to download in PDF format will cost you zip, nadda, nothing!

Want it posted printed, properly, on photo paper it’s a fiver.

Want it on plain paper but laminated, it’s a fiver.

Want it both on photo paper and laminated then it’s a tenner.

    Fair?

Ink costs money, postage costs money, paper costs money and laminating costs money. Anway, all the cash goes back to UKW minus the expenses of doing it of course, the time for this for the moment is mine and free.

A sample can be seen here: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/pdfs/membcert.pdf

Ignore the big “Draft” stamp as that is not there on a pukka one obviously and it will be signed off (digitally) by me and Dave. 😉

It’s something to stick on the wall and then everyone will know that you have access to UKW and just maybe it will have an effect.

I think its very nice too Ken, I printed off the draft and I believe it would look good on any business wall alongside their other certificates.

Not sure what it would truly signify to the general public at large though? What type of accredition it represents, that kind of thing?

My UKW Whitegoods ‘Certificate’ hangs proudly on my website http://www.enterpriserepairs.co.uk/contactus.htm which in my case I believe has a similar effect for the public at large, hopefully ❓ I haven’t got a shop wall to nail one up on anyway 😉

    Good, that was the idea.

It doesn’t really mean much other than that you are a UKW subscriber, but it lets people know that you are, sometimes I think that’s one of the main reasons for such things.

That said, if we went forward on the code of practise/charter thing then maybe it would mean a bit more in time. And, like all such things, it can take years for it to sink into the trade’s never mind public’s minds.

Neither do I but everyone that walks through the door will see a nice certificate there now. 😉

Ah! Now your talking and I see where you’re going here with this idea. I too see the need for a more representative accreditation the public and trade alike will aspire to. At this present time I believe we have just two distinct area’s that this trade can gain accreditation. On the one hand (and I believe most importantly) we have The Trading Standards Association that directly represents the general public and is linked with local and national government legislation.

And on the other we have various trade associations whose strident efforts over the years in trying to bring this business into line, have simply lost their way, so far have only achieved little other than to create small groups of members in a kind of ‘Freemasons Society’ 😉

What is needed here is just one recognised trade accreditation that encompasses the established trade ‘Code of Practice’, that will be solely recognised by Trading Standards as a goverment/national standard. Get that sorted under the UKW logo and the whole thing will snowball into a something really big and worthwhile!

    Re: Membership Certificate

What I don’t want is to beat anyone with a big “you must do” stick to be a part of UKW, I never did and still see no need for that attitude. However, I do see a need for some form of basic rules to be included in any endevours that we undertake. This is not only to reassure the public that we do ask our members to treat them in a certain way but also for contract work, which is a subject that has to be viewed in a different light so far as I am concerned.

I also have a unique method for the semi-policing of such a scheme but more on that another time. 😉

UKW will remain open even if this does go ahead and I won’t change my own personal attitude to it either but I guess we have to start somewhere and by stripping it down to brass tacks in plain English is the best approach I can think of TBH.

The point about the certificate to show that you are a UKW member is to start that ball rolling in some small measure. If it works and it goes somewhere then great I’ll be happy with that, if not well, we tried it at least.

In the end it’s all about self-promotion this bit, we should really promote ourselves and promote the fact that we do care about what we do for a living and that (I think) we should demonstrate that to customers at every opportunity given to us be that end users directly or contract clients. And if UKW can go some way towards lifting our image in any measurable way then it’s a job well done.
