ParticipantThe Bosch WAE24364GB seems to get a good review here but I have a couple of questions.
1. Does it have the sealed drum?
2. The washing machine repair man told me to get a Bosch machine actually made in Germany as opposed to Spain. He said to look at the back – the German made ones had a whole square panel removeable back section and the Spanish made ones had an upside down tear shaped panel.
I had a look yesterday and the only ones I could see with the whole panel were the top of the range ones which are too expensive for me.
Is this necessary – I simply want a reliable machine.

Bosch support site indicates a split drum
My rule of thumb is the door handle -small square handle not German built
larger curved handle German built. As for the rear well I have seen both rear plates tear drop and square on German built machines.
To be sure the machine should have the plate below…if made other than Germany it will state EU I believe.Hope this helps

Excues my ignorance – I assume that means it’s not a sealed drum?
In the end I chose the WAE28364GB which I believe is identical but has a 1400 spin as opposed to 1200.

One last question – what is considered the serial number? My credit card company give me an extra free year’s warranty – they usually ask for a serial number. Do I quote them the FD number or is it something else?

Participantyes the fd number is the serial number
the machine you have will wipe the floor with a hotpoint, regardless of what drum it has in it
you can find the fd number inside the door if you dont wanna pull it out

Thanks.

My Hotpoint, top of the range, has lasted 2.5yrs – apparently the bearings have gone. This was a replacement organised by Hotpoint after I kicked up a fuss with Hotpoint who, after a 3 week wait could still not tell me when they would get the parts to fix my 3yr old top of the range machine. They only offered me a discounted price when I took it to the papers. My previous Hotpoint had lasted over 12 years and was still actually working! Hotpoint have gone seriously downhill.
I have now decided that Hotpoint is not worth all the hassle although it was a very quiet machine whilst working – you often had to go up to it to check it was on. The Bosch I have just had installed is not as quiet as the Hotpoint (although not noisy) but hopefully it will be far more reliable.

I saw it there – just wasn’t sure if that equated to serial number.

Participanthotpoints are made by indesit, and have been for a few years
yours would probably have been a wf/wt machine.. and would have had a 3 phase motor, makin its quiet because thers no brush noise
however, theyre pants.. as uve found, drums fail for laughs
ull be fine once it settles down and u get used to it. good choice on the bosch

I noticed that. Probably my long lasting previous Hotpoint was made by Hoptpoint before it was taken over. Most it ever needed was the brushes replaced every so often.

Sorry don’t understand wf/wt machine – what does that mean/do?

Last one failed on the main pcb – that was replaced and it still would not work. They then decided it needed some other part (can’t remember what now) and of course it was so unusual it had to be specially ordered. Three weeks without a machine and they still could not tell me when the part would be available.
At that time even getting someone out from Hotpoint was taking around a week – shocking service!

I have a Bosch dishwasher and oven which I’ve been very pleased with so hopefully I’ll be happy with the washing machine too.

Ah I see now – thought it was shorthand for something. It was the WT960P.

ParticipantJust a quick correction to Helo’s post. The FD number isn’t the serial number , its the manafacturing date. The serial number will be a (normally) 6 figure number after the FD number.
On the door label you will have the ENR ( model number ) which in your case will be WAE28364GB/** then there will be an FD number – this will be 4 numbers which should look something like 8912 or 9001 then finally the serial number which will be 5 or 6 numbers long .
Hope this helps
