Had a simple job that left me feeling a bit anxious and bit concerned?

The job was at a flat in a property owned by these folks.

    http://www.inclusionhousingcic.org.uk/h … we_do.html

I was met at the secured front door by one of the support workers, escorted to the flat where the faulty appliance was.

(must say that had been here about 4 years ago when I worked for Comet and was escorted every second I was in the building, signed in, signed out – very professional)

Support worker explains the problem. SW stays in room with me and female client. Client (who is an adult but with severe learning difficulties and some minor disabilities) decides they want to watch a video with telly at 160db, client trying to talk to SW over the TV. I’ve got my head stuck in the fridge struggling to get the door off.

Next thing the client is trying to help me with the door, trying to get something out of the ridge and talk to me all at the same time. I look up to see the door closing ‘cus the SW has decided to buggar off.

I did my best to extradite myself as quickly and as safely as possible (trying not to let the door fall onto the client) I managed to get to the door and grab a passing SW, only after a short period stuck in the corridor with 3 or 4 clients with varying degrees of mental and physical disabilites. He was really helpful, quickly got the client under control.

I quickly completed the job with the male SW who probably realised that I didn’t want to be left by myself. Paperwork signed and exit PDQ.

From what I can gather now, I believe the home is run by a different company from my previous visit.??

Now, ordinarilly, I refuse to enter a private house with out an adult, and I’m for ever asking customers not to leave their children in the same room as me and bugger off to answer the door etc. I always protect myself all the time, I just didn’t expect the SW to buggar without saying a thing!

The whole experience has left me feeling uncomfortable.

As I went to the job I was laughing ‘cus one of my local cmpetitors has a shop within sight of this property – I wasn’t laughing when I left.
    😯

No doubt I’m going to get more work there. I just feel a bit uncomfortable now and “let down”. If I get another job there, will I be over reacting to ask that no clients are in the room/flat and that I am excorted 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time?? The “flats” are after all the “homes” of the clients.

Just writing about this is making me feel uncomfortable and uneasy…..

    Re: Thoughts/Advice please

I go to places like this quite often. I always insist that a SW is present if a client is also present. if the client isn’t around then ofc it’s not a problem.

Never had any problems as a result of this and the company are excellent payers. I’d say stick at it, it can be a pita sometimes but the money makes up for it IMO 🙂

I would have a chat with someone and explain the situation, I’m pretty sure they would understand as all they want is the job sorting with minimal fuss.

    Re: Thoughts/Advice please

A few months back i was sexually harrassed whilst fitting a cooker for the social services branch of the local authority.
The 72 year old woman, (im 37 by the way) i was later told unofficially by her support worker had a drink problem !
I can laugh about this now but at the time it wasn’t very funny, being quizzed about my sex life and at one point she even made a grab for me when i was bent down wireing the cooker in 😯
Thankfully i have a FEMALE co worker who was present throughout this, however when i was reporting these events back to the support worker she informed me they had a young lad going round to fit a carpet for her the next day. She left my shop giggling to herself…… 😆
