ParticipantFirst of all the top oven and grill works fine.
A couple of weeks ago the fan oven element blew up, bits all over the oven.
I duly bought another element and fitted it, but it didn’t appear work. Took the element out and tested it externally. (i.e. resistance value of about 23ohms and then checked it on the mains – heated up perfectly)
I looked further and suspected the oven thermostat, which I duly replaced.
The fan works but no heat.
Since then I have checked the I/P voltage which is 230/240.
Up to the switch it is still 240v.
When the fan oven is selected + temp control, it still will not heat up but I have checked and there is 28v across the oven element terminals (not much use for warming it up).
Further checking I have done includes checking the various terminals on the main oven selector switch – all appear to close ok.
Whilst checking these out I noticed that some of the voltages across certain terminals drops to 195v.Anyone have any other ideas I could possibly check.
And in case you are wondering – yes I work with electrics all day so I am always very careful so I don’t injure myself or anyone else.April 17, 2010 at 6:59 pm #318149iadom

There are at least two different main oven stats, how did you decide which one to fit?
Its likely to have taken out some contacts in the main selector switch.

Thanks for the response. In answer to your question, if you are talking about the thermostat at the rear of the oven, I tested this with a small heat source and the unit went open circuit.
I will take another look at the contacts in the next day or so and let you know what I find.

No, I meant there are two different main oven stats dependent on serial number. I wondered how you had identified which was the correct part number of the two options. 😉
