ParticipantA friend has left a message on answerphone asking if I can get hold of a new plastic evaporation tray for the top of the compressor at a more reasonable price than the £30 or so he’s finding on the net. (Connect abt. same as trade price.) Apparently it’s split. I’ve not been to see it but apparently this is a bit extortionate in his opinion for a plastic dish. Is there a work-around for this problem?

Before the advent of plastic a “Fray Bentos” sliced beef tin was almost an exact replica of the manufactures original.
I have some new ones I could send you one but there will be plenty of fridges around waiting for the crusher with a decent one on,try the local tip.April 21, 2010 at 11:25 pm #318385leavemetogetonwithit

Thankyou sirs. Should be no problem then. I’ll let him know. Had been thinking of the Fray Bentos option but I don’t think he’d eat that stuff and they may have made it obsolete? Margerine maybe, but would it stand the heat? My personal preference if this disaster were to befall me would be some sort of ceramic dog dish but I suppose it would be difficult to find one shallow enough. (There again I know a few potters. Maybe a special commission would be in order.) As for the tip, they’re awful restrictive round here about anybody trying to recoup anything. Used to be great down there. Once got a Quad 303 amp for a quid. Then all this health and safety nonsense and wee regs and stuff kicked in and they refurbished the place, took on more staff, gave them hard hats and yellow jackets, made the skips accessible for wheelchairs etc. :rolls:
Would the apparently much-favoured next Tory government change any of that? Maybe I should stand as a return to old values candidate and make this country third-world again, like it was in the Eighties.
😆
