Tough call there funky but I’ve had a go to help you out based on my own business stats and they are: –
Based on 15,052 completed calls (when I started logging calls on a PC) through many and various w/m’s, d/w’s, t/d’s and Ovens
21{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} = Not draining (for some reason?)
3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} = Not heating
70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} = Not spinning
6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} = otherParts fitted ratio = 28{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}
HTH? 😀

cheers martin..
just thinking about a marketing line to counter these …
fixed price repairs type services .. ie why pay £139 etc if all you need is a simple unblock etc…

no parts fitted for me 50.19{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} this does include BER but quite often I will not charge for something that costs me less than a quid or so eg rear spring on a Wm52 if it takes less than a few seconds to fit. am I a fool or does this look good to the customer? cheap word of mouth advertising for me

This is quite interesting.
Ian can correct me if I’m wrong but I think, from memory on the returns for scrap he gets its…
25-30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} no fault at all
25-30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} repaired with no spares or spares under £10
All the rest after that, mostly BER as they are end of life machines.
What it did prove, quite resoundingly for me if not scientifically, is that people are scrapping stuff needlessly. Probably costing them a fortune as well.

Is that the proportion where no parts were needed or where parts were needed?OTTOMH, my percentage would be 55 no parts/ 45 parts.
I’d be a bit reluctant to make it too public as I wouldn’t want to encourage too much DIY.

But Mike, people pay because you know how to fix it or can work it out. Or indeed because they can’t be bothered.
Anyone with much more than a modicum of common sense can work out most faults on an appliance. the fact is, many of them cannot do so for whatever reason and that’s what keeps us all in business.

Yeah, you’re surely right. Probably would be no bad thing to encourage DIY. If they’re incompetent they’ll bust the thing proper and I’ll make more money. 😆

For every 100 calls, 28 needed parts fitting (on average). This week so far bucks the trend though, out of 6 completed jobs 4 needed parts fitting =50.25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} so that falls nicely in line with funkys thinking! 😀

thanks guys …
dont know if its a good idea or not to quote stats reguarding marketing -as theres always someone who would chalenge them etc ..
may go with something along the lines ….
most appliance repairs are due to minnor parts failure or simply need adjusted , so why pay over the odds on a fixed repair when there a good chance you may only need to pay for engineers call-out..only thinking out loud with this , also dont want every customer who reads it to think all they will need is a call-out … bit of a balance act ..
i think this fixed price repair fee will really kick off and its only a matter of time when all the big boys will have it as standard practice..
it is a big threat to independants.i know lots of us have plenty loyal repeat customers , but the next generation are all www.. online this that and the next thing..
maybe time to rethink ..

Fixed pricing can have the opposite effect and therefore advantageous to indies. The average fixed price is about £110, a price indies well undercut at present.

Well, now that’s some wizardry with the maths that would put George Osborne to shame. 😆

I miss the days when I got my hands dirty and used my Engineering knowledge to repair a product.
I think the most complicated job I had this week was explaining why Hotpoint hadn’t made the NTC’s available as a spare on there 3 yr old fridge and how if I can’t fix it can I justify the call out and not explain it on the phone.
I miss the Hotpoint Top loaders. 😥
