We have a 4 year old Hotpoint WF740T washing machine. There’s a squeak from the door, most noticeable on slow spin parts of the cycle. The squeak stops or is much reduced if I press the door inwards. The squeak doesn’t affect the working but it’s annoying and I’d like to stop it squeaking.

Possibly useful diagnostic info: The door closes to a fairly tight fit – there’s no play when shut, and it has to be pushed quite hard to get the latch to engage. The door seal is original and is in good condition apart from some mould stains; no creases, bulges or visible wear. The seal lies symmetrically all the way round, although lining up the drum edges with the door opening, the drum is slightly down and to the right – by less than a centimetre. Drum turns smoothly with no obvious movement in the bearing.

    Thanks

    Chris

It’s probably not the door itself. When you press on the door you might be moving the drum inwards slightly. The outer drum hangs from 2 springs, you could try a bit of grease on the ends where they hook onto the cabinet. With the lid off (plug out first) you may be able to shake the outer drum about to reproduce the sound and trace it that way. On these machines you often get squeaking noises from the drive belt.

Thanks, Phidom, I’ll have look inside (as you say, with plug out)
