ParticipantHello, new to the board but already impressed with all the advice and info floating around. I’ve been searching for a new w/m and through this forum i’m aware of the sealed drum issue and the greatness of miele. Anyway… I have a limited budget (it started at £250 max) which is £350 to £400 max. I have got my options down to 3 machines and would like a bit of advice if possible.
1. Gorenje wa72145 £330 + 5 yr warranty
2. Bosch wae28468gb £330 + 2 yrs warranty
3. Siemens wm14e162gb £400 + 5 yr warranty
These are all 1400 spin 7kg machines i believe. The gorenje i think has the faster wash than the siemens and the siemens didnt get rated that well by which? where as the bosch gets great ratings but obviously comes without the safety of the 5 yr cover.
I have a baby girl and do roughly 2 loads a day in my now dead indesit 5kg, so i will expect to do about 10 loads a week in a 7kg. I really like the idea of supporting the under dog of Gorenje and the £70 saved could buy a much needed new stroller for my girl as well as some nappies 🙂 I would just like to know if all of these machines are free of the sealed drum curse and if anyone has experience of the gorenje range. Also, are Siemens the next best thing to a miele or ise?
P.S £400 is REALLY streching my budget to its limit.May 5, 2010 at 2:15 pm #319456don

Hi freicycler
The good news is none of them have thew dreaded sealed drum 😀 Gorenje have been around for a good ten years now and on the whole the reliability is good and with the back up of at least a two year warranty if not a five they are always a god bet.
The Bosch is a better build machine in the door hinge area and the doors themselves are sturdier which may come in handy when little ones start to lean or swing on them. Siemens is part of the same group as Bosch and the product a little sturdier again with slightly better energy consumptions and programme options which reflects in the price and with it`s five year warranty it would be my fist choice everytime followed by the Bosch and then the Gorenje.
Do you really need a 7kg machine? A read of this article may make you reconsider.
HTH 🙂

ParticipantHmm. Maybe I dont need the 7kg but i would want the 5yr cover unless i could get a bosch for significantly less. Is there a cheaper siemens out there with the 5 yr cover? Cheapest bosch i’ve seen is about £290 and 3 yrs extra cover has got to be worth £40 surely. The Gorenje is the only one in the range with the 5 yr cover offer. Man its hard to choose when your a tight Bstrd and skint like me. I’ll see if i can get the shop to drop the price on the siemens to £380 or less (defo worth the extra 50 for German quality). If not i think money will choose the gorenje for me. Have you seen the model i’m after in the flesh? I’ll have to check the t&c of warranty to see if the door is covered. Thanks for the advice so far, its now between siemens and gorenje, so there is progress.

Hi
I`m looking at the black Gorenje WA72145 from my desk as I type.
You won`t get any guarantee to cover for child abuse i`m afraid 😉 😆 Best to go for the sturdier Siemens machine, when you look at it in the cold light of day it would only cost 17p more per week, assuming they last for eight years.
HTH 🙂

Thanks for the quick reply. So do you run a shop? Can you compete with the price of the siemens or gorenje? If so, are you allowed to tell me the name of your shop? 😉
I know in the back of my mind that the siemens is the best bet, you have confirmed this, thanks.
Just cant get that damn money saving monkey off my back 😳May 5, 2010 at 8:09 pm #319460gandh1

£400 is a pretty good price for the siemens tbh, where have you seen it for that price because it must be just a “take it away” price, cant see theres any margin in it for anyone if it includes delivery etc…

Just cant get that damn money saving monkey off my back 😳We are an independant retailer in Exeter, it looks like you `may` be around the Manchester area, just a little too far for both of us 😉 Our price on the Gorenje is £349 Inc VAT, the Siemens I cannot compete on price at all, nowhere near it, might as well give it to you 😕 I shall be glad when they follow Bosch / Neff and give the same cost prices to the high St. shops and the online retailers, I can but hope.

If you look for the Seimens on Ebay you should find a local dealer in Burnley
offering the model for your target price with free delivery and the 5 year warranty.
If you buy through one of the cash back sites (eg quidco) then you will also reduce the total cost a few pounds more…..Note -I have no association with either of the above but just thought this may help you purchase what is almost certainly the best machine imho

Thanks for all the help everyone.
Don, thats a shame as i would like to get it from a shop if poss, but now the shop i was quoted £400 from (including delivery and connection) has put the price up to £500 🙁 I’m in london btw. So i’ll have to get it from the net now. Found it (siemens) for £378 including delivery and i get nectar points too, so its a very good price by all accounts. Phoned both siemens and gorenje to check out the customer service and both seemed good but siemens edged it with friendly and well informed call centre operatives. Still, i’m gonna do one last look at both machines and make my purchase tomorrow. The delayed start and child lock on the gorenje (absent from the siemens) have given me one last thing to think about. Arghh 😡
I’ll let you know when i finally get my machine and what i think of it.Cheers

well if your in london my co. delivers to west london.
if you provide postcode & house no, i can quote for full price inc del to room, for both siemens and the gorenje… or we can also offer del to room + install and disposal.
but to warn you i doubt anyone can compete with siemens for £378. are you sure thats a current listing of a price (i.e. in stock) and not a dead&forgotton web page ???
