I got this machine second hand three months ago and it has been fine but yesterday it stopped working and the start button is flashing, there is no manual. I depressed the button until the light went out and it started working, it went through almost a whole cycle then stopped again, light flashing as before. I have done the same thing but now it only goes for a few minutes, drawing in water then emptying again, then the light flashes and it is silent again.

I am an elderly woman and can’t do complicated repairs myself. Is it likely to be something serious and would be better to get rid of it and get another one, or is it simple enough to make it cost effective to repair? I don’t even know how old it is but it must be a few years.

    Help would be much appreciated.

When the machine faults, the start lamp will flash in a pattern, ie 1-2-3-4-pause-repeat. This is an error code. If you would post that information we should be able to advise you.

Thanks for your reply. I guess it is 1 because it is just flashing on and off with no pattern, continuously.

    Re: Whirlpool ADP 970 fault

Constant flashing is F1, which is a failure of the ntc device. This is the temperature sensor and can been seen as the finger sticking up in the bowl of the sump when the filters are removed.

A replacement may be found HERE.

Stay safe – power off if you intend to attempt the repair yourself.

    Hi.

I have the same problem with my Tecnik TKD 795.

On a full cycle, it completes the prewash OK, starts the main wash (ie, the soap dispenser opens and the water comes in) but soon after the machine stops working and starts beeping constantly. After reading various forums (including this one) I ran the error test and it came up with the NTC failure as the likely problem. I have just bought a new one and, having replaced it today, still no luck. The problem is exactly the same as before.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

PS: If anyone wants to buy an unused NTC sensor (the exact same one shown on Penguin24’s link), I’ll happily do a deal!!
