ParticipantI am mystified by the behaviour of our washing machine! It all started when there was a loud screeching sound as the motor appeared to race when it spun. After this the motor would not turn. Error E50.
I replaced the brushes (the old ones were worn) and now it behaves strangely. For example on the Spin setting it just spins for a second or two at points where it should spin continuously, but it drains OK. at the end of this cycle error E50.
Another example: When on the Drain setting, the drum turns quite a lot, but i don’t think it should turn at all (although I’m not sure)! When it does turn, this is smooth and continuous so i don’t think it is a brush problem. At the end of this cycle there is no error message.
It is as if the whole thing needs to be reset, or the control system is faulty.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Although no-one responded to this post, several people have looked at it so I thought I would update you. I gave in and duely paid my money to Serviceforce and the guy has just been. The magnet bearings on the rear of the motor have disintegrated, leading to lack of motor control and the the erratic behaviour I described in the original post. They are going to replace the whole motor rather than attempt to repair it!
As a matter of interest, does anyone know if I would have been able to get the parts to repair it myself if I had realised what the fault was?

Hi.
That said, I cannot tell you if the tacho is all that has failed here. There may be a reason why the engineer is changing the motor complete.

Apparently it is Serviceforce policy to do complete motor replacement instead of attempting repair. His meter test didn’t indicate anything wrong other than the magnet which had become detached.

I work for a ServiceForce agent but not your area so I can’t comment on your local agent’s practices.
