ParticipantServis 1500rpm Easilogic M3025. Purchased new 12/2002. No extended warranty.
From day one to present have had a problem with excessive vibration at spin speeds below 1000 (at around 900 it threatens to jump through the work-top till it decides to cut out).
Having given up trying to level it, I managed to lessen the vibration by pulling the machine out from under the work-top. This, not being a long term solution, prompted me to call the help-line who sent out an engineer, who proceeded to remove the top and stick a pad of foam rubber to the inside of the case to stop the soap dispenser supply hose from rattling against the side.
“Of course,” he says “Big drum model innit? Not designed for domestic situations with a suspended floor. Needs a concrete floor or a nice solid plinth, but they don’t tell you that do they? Give this a go and call the help-line again if your not happy”.
He was gone in 20 minutes, without even offering to help me get the damn thing back under the work-top.
On closer examination I noticed that if I turned the drum gently, so as not to disturb the suspension, I could see the drum deviate by about 5mm when viewing the drum rim in relation to the rubber, leading me to draw the conclusion that the rotational axis of the drum could be out of alignment with that of the bearing.
I eventually (by this time there was only a week left of the 12 month warranty) called the help-line again and explained my theory which I re-iterated to the engineer when he (the same guy as before)arrived.“Nah!” he says “Wouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference if I fitted a new drum and bearing. You need a concrete floor. Can’t help you mate”.
He was gone in under five minutes.
I called the help-line, straight away, explaining what the engineer had said, only to be told that, if that’s what he’d said then there was nothing they could do and that I should get back to the supplier.
Called the catalog company who says “Sorry, you’ve exceeded the trial period, please call the Servis help-line”.
Brick wall!
Side notes: There has always been a good 10 minute delay before the ‘End’ indicator illuminates, after any program finishes, even though the door interlock can be heard to release, enabling to the door to be opened within about two minutes. When the machine was about 6 months old, there was one instance when it failed to start a program, even though the ‘Start’ button was illuminated. Opening and closing the door several times made no difference, but pushing the ‘Start’ button after leaving it for 10 minutes, with the power left on, did.
A couple of days ago, I think the hot water inlet valve must have stuck, as there was a loud humming and only a feeble trickle of water into the powder drawer. I stopped the machine and restarted it twice with without remedy, but let it continue to the end of the program (the humming stopped once the intake of hot water ceased).
The next day I prepared myself by pulling out the machine and removing the top, so I could give the valve a ‘tap’ should it jam again. It didn’t (well, the valve didn’t hum at least), but the machine performed an unusually long sequence of squirt cold water and tumble actions before continuing as normal . The program ran to it’s conclusion without incident apart from the fact that the ‘End’ indicator would not illuminate at all this time, needing me to release the ‘On/Off’ button to kill it.
The next load, nothing…the machine is dead. Power to the circuit board, but the ‘Start’ button doesn’t light up and pushing it does squat all.
Any advice on diagnosis?
Thanks,

Tack,
I am not the least bit surprised at your experience with your Servis machine. Your many observations are quite correct. If the drum spins uneven, then it will have an overall unbalanced excessive vibrating effect. The engineer that called sounds as though he should seek another career on the London Underground as a platform sweeper! Although it is true a suspended floor coupled with a poor machine equals shake, rattle and roll at best!
In truth Servis is a very budget machine, (entry level stuff even) It looks the part, I must admit, and has all the bells and whistles to make you think it should perform. Sadly though they fails almost as quickly as a banana goes rotten. Better to cut your losses and put it down to experience I reckon!
Buy Bosch next time OK?

Just for your information, the module alone is over £150 😮
I’d go along with Martin there, dump it and buy something better.

Of course, one could conclude, that had you stuck to your guns about having a defective machine in the first 28 days, Servis UK and the retailer would have offered you an automatic exchange. And whilst I would agree, that had you spent more money, the chances are that you might have got a better machine you could equally have bought a dog.

Much better value for money in my opinion.
“Man’s best friend” will be more reliable and live much longer 😆

Managed to get a cheap replacement module off eBay, so the beast lives again … but it seems to have retained a previous problem in that, more often than not, it doesn’t perform a full spin cycle at the end of a wash program. When this occurs, I need to perform a seperate spin cycle where it reaches full speed quite happily 😕 .
Can anyone tell me if this model does in fact have a vibration sensor that can be overriden?
Thanks.

KeymasterTack,
The machine does have an anti-balance sensor, in the module I’m afraid and it cannot be by-passed. These machines are reknowned for instability and unsuitability on wooden flooring, in particular, suspended flooring and even testing one on a wooden floor for excessive vibration is a non-starter in my experience of them. The problem is that you get (as an engineer) so used to the complaing you do get a bit blase (sp?) about it and that’s why you get the attitude from the engineer that you did most likely.
I am reliably informed that the UK is one of the few countried in the EU that don’t have concrete flooring for the most part, that’s why we end up with a system like this. On more expensive machines they tend to have better dampers etc. in them that soak the vibration up a lot better, as well as a more rigid cabinet.
As for the modules, well let’s just say I’ve replaced one or two mini SELs in my time. 😉
As the saying goes….you gets what you pays for. 😕
