ParticipantMy Samsung upright fridge freezer has developed a problem but I’m not sure what it is…..
2 days ago the fridge and freezer were at room temperature when I returned home from work, it has 5 “reference temperature lights” accross the top – usually there are 3 lights on – only light 3 was illuminated.
Yesterday morning I checked the compressor conections etc. re-powered the machine and just light 3 lit – on pressing power and temperature together all 5 lights came on and then went to 3, it powered up properly and worked normally all day and all night.
When I returned from work this evening only light 3 was on and all was warm again, I tried pressing both buttons together again but it keeps dropping back to light 3 after a few minutes.
I assume the light 3 is an error code but have no idea where to find the code list.
Can anyone supply the code list?
I have electronics and engineering background so a home fix would be possible.
Any help would be appreciated……
Many thanks

Hi
High probability that the defrost heater has failed,if the defrost sensor does not reach +17oc then the unit wont restart after a defrost,by switching off and then back on you reset it till the next defrost time.
we can supply the parts if needed, but f you diagois wrong the parts arent returnable.

Many thanks Bryan,
Sorry to be a pain, but in this hot weather, being without a fridge/freezer for any length of time is a real problem as you will agree.
Is there any test I can perform to check the heater before ordering a replacement part?
Where is the defrost heater? and where does it conect?
Do you have a list of the error codes?
Many thanks

Thats not an error code..its the temp setting..
the heater is on the evaperator.if your electrically compident then you would be able to meter the heater.

When the unit is working properly it displays a row of led’s for temperature, 1 lit = warmest – all 5 lit = coolest.
I have only the 3rd led lit (instead of the first 3 led’s) – pretty sure this is an error code!
I have had time this weekend to test all the parts:
if the heater is at fault I can see no war of removing it without unsoldering the evaperator as it is a metal tube type and runs all around the evap frame (front, back, bottom).
I have a pair of red wires that go down the drain hole (possibly to timer ?) : 2KRI have a pair of blue wires to a sensor (20mm x 5mm), cable tied to the evaperator : 60KR when at normal running temp & open circuit at room temp.
I have 400R at the heater terminals.
I have a cylindrical package about 75mm long x 8mm thick, wrapped in foil and then styrene foam – it is located at the side of the evaperator/heater assembly and is wired in series with the heater : open circuit at all temps.
…….I assume the heater is OK at 400R and suspect the unknown unit mounted to the E/H assembly since it is wired in series!
….any ideasMany thanks

The evap defrost sensor is not reading correctly, that is why the thermal fuse has gone o/c. Both parts need replacing
